Podcaster Theo Von and The Pokémon Company may not share much in common, but now they stand united on a surprising front. Pokémon and Theo Von agree on one thing: they shouldn’t be in DHS videos—especially not ones promoting deportation campaigns.
Earlier this week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted a controversial video on X featuring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. To the shock of fans, the clip was set to the iconic Pokémon theme song with the caption “Gotta Catch ‘Em All.” The video even borrowed anime visuals and a knockoff version of the franchise’s signature font.
DHS Uses Pokémon Theme Song In Deportation Video
The backlash didn’t stop there. Just a day later, DHS shared another video—this time using a viral clip of comedian Theo Von. In the short edit, Von stares into the camera and says, “Heard you got deported, dude… bye.” The agency then added stats about deportations under President Donald Trump, giving the video a bizarre mix of dark humor and government propaganda.
Pokémon And Theo Von Push Back
Both Pokémon and Theo Von agree on one thing: they shouldn’t be in DHS videos—and they weren’t quiet about it.
The Pokémon Company issued a statement condemning the use of its intellectual property in the deportation-themed promo. Meanwhile, Theo Von responded directly on X, posting:
“Yooo DHS I didn’t approve to be used in this. I know you know my address so send a check. And please take this down and keep me out of your ‘banger’ deportation videos.”
Fans React To The Controversy
Fans of Pokémon quickly voiced outrage, calling the government’s use of the theme song both disrespectful and tone-deaf. Many also saw the videos as a blatant misuse of creative works meant for entertainment, not political messaging.
Theo Von’s audience, on the other hand, seemed split between finding his response hilarious and being shocked the government would use his clip without permission.
Why It Matters
This controversy highlights growing concerns about how government agencies use pop culture in official messaging. When Pokémon and Theo Von agree on one thing: they shouldn’t be in DHS videos, it raises bigger questions about copyright, consent, and whether federal campaigns are crossing ethical lines.
