Job Title: Workshop Supervisor

Reporting to: Plant Manager / Operations Manager

Industry: Funeral Services (Casket & Fitting Manufacturing)

Salary: Kshs. 40,000 gross

Location: Kariobangi South

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly disciplined, production-minded Workshop Supervisor to lead and direct our specialized casket and fitting manufacturing floor in Kariobangi South. Your primary focus will be to orchestrate daily fabrication schedules, driving raw lumber, metal components, or composite materials from initial machining and fine carpentry through to high-quality finishing and storage. This role bridges practical trade supervision with structured resource optimization, requiring an assertive, safety-conscious leader who can maintain high productivity targets while enforcing strict workshop organization.

Key Responsibilities

Production Direction & Workflow Optimization

  • Direct and synchronize day-to-day workshop manufacturing activities to guarantee seamless throughput across all cutting, assembly, and finishing bays.
  • Delegate explicit production targets and technical tasks to carpenters, welders, and finishing teams based on order urgency.
  • Monitor operational assembly speeds during peak seasons to clear bottlenecks and minimize labor downtime.
  • Review production line layouts continuously, recommending mechanical adjustments to improve floor capacity.

Structural Quality Control & Assurance

  • Inspect raw wood inputs, metal fittings, and finishing consumables to ensure they meet structural grade benchmarks before production begins.
  • Perform meticulous multi-point inspections during and after fabrication cycles to eliminate defects or dimensional variations.
  • Enforce immediate corrective rework protocols on any piece failing to match established brand blueprints and aesthetic rules.

Material Logistics & Asset Upkeep

  • Track daily consumption of timber, textile linings, structural hardware, and varnishes to prevent material shrinkage.
  • Compile precise material requisition forms ahead of time to avoid inventory stockouts and costly line interruptions.
  • Enforce strict preventative maintenance schedules for commercial table saws, routers, spray systems, and power tools.
  • Coordinate rapid mechanical troubleshooting and external repair jobs to keep machinery downtime near zero.

Labor Leadership & Workplace Safeguards

  • Monitor daily staff attendance logs, manage floor discipline, and deliver objective performance reports to factory leadership.
  • Deliver mandatory safety briefings and toolbox talks, ensuring all casual and permanent artisans use correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean, dust-controlled, and highly organized workshop floor layout to eliminate fire and physical collision hazards.
  • Draft accurate shift logs, output metrics, and waste sheets to provide management with clear visibility into daily manufacturing performance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience Longevity: Minimum of 3 years of progressive, verified experience in a supervisory or foreman capacity within a high-output carpentry shop, industrial woodworking plant, metal fabrication unit, or manufacturing yard.
  • Team Management: Demonstrated success leading, scheduling, and optimizing artisan crews, craftsmen, and technical laborers under tight manufacturing deadlines.
  • Technical Interpretation: Functional ability to read, interpret, and translate technical drawings, material cutting lists, and design specifications easily.
  • Operational Literacy: Basic competence in compiling data logs and shifting metrics using digital tracking or documentation tools.

Functional Competencies

  • Assertive Command: Clear, authoritative communication skills paired with the ability to maintain strong discipline and accountability on a busy shop floor.
  • Resource Mindset: Strong mathematical sense focused on calculating material layouts, tracking raw inventory usage, and driving cost-efficiencies.
  • Physical Resilience: Comfortable managing long, active supervision shifts in an industrial, high-noise manufacturing environment.

Benefits

  • Niche Sector Stability: Advance your operational career within a highly specialized, secure corporate portfolio backed by robust, recession-proof industry demands.
  • Process Leadership: Take direct charge of a dedicated manufacturing site, wielding the autonomy to build modern production flows and optimize shop workflows.
  • Skill Expansion: Broaden your management profile by coordinating diverse trades including fine woodworking, structural finishing, and complex material logistics.
