Web Developer

Role Overview

This internship is focused on supporting the Nairobi Convention’s digital presence by developing, updating, and maintaining website pages and interactive visualization dashboards. You will work closely with project teams to collate data, create web-based reporting tools, and ensure timely publication of event materials. Your contributions will help improve the convention’s online visibility and its ability to share knowledge on marine and coastal environmental issues across the Western Indian Ocean region.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining the Nairobi Convention website and linked web platforms, including project-specific pages.
• Help create and maintain visualization dashboards for projects such as SWIOFC-NC PP1, SWIOFC-NC PP2, and NOCAMO.
• Collate, organise, and structure project outputs, documents, and datasets for integration into web dashboards and reporting tools.
• Support the merging of data from multiple sources into cohesive datasets used for dashboards, web pages, and other digital products.
• Contribute to the creation and revision of metadata and structured information for web maps and project information systems.
• Assist in data analysis and interpretation using digital tools, generating insights for project communication and decision-making.
• Help build and update event-related web pages (e.g., COP12) by uploading working documents, information papers, and other materials on schedule.
• Upload and maintain a range of web content, including project documents, communication materials, and event resources.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At the time of application, must be enrolled in (or have completed) a graduate programme (second university degree or higher), or be in/is final academic year of a first university degree (bachelor’s or equivalent).
• Hold a university degree in web development, computer science, information technology, software engineering, data science, digital systems, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and viewpoints.
• Show a genuine interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
• No prior professional work experience is required, but the field of study must be directly relevant to the internship’s duties.
• Must be a student in the final year of a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD programme, or have recently completed such a programme.
