Water Systems Operator

Role Overview

As a System Operator, you are the frontline guardian of water service continuity at your assigned sites. You run and monitor boreholes, pumps, treatment units, and solar-powered systems, keeping water flowing from source to tap while maintaining precise operational records. Your vigilance and hands-on maintenance directly prevent service interruptions and protect water quality for the communities that depend on them.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate boreholes, pumps, water treatment systems, and solar systems; record pumping hours, flow rates, and pressure readings.
• Monitor chlorine dosing, tank hygiene, and overall system cleanliness; support water quality sampling.
• Inspect equipment regularly; report faults immediately and perform minor repairs as directed by the Technical Officer.
• Support preventive maintenance schedules and assist with emergency repairs.
• Watch for leaks, bursts, and illegal connections; report them promptly.
• Assist with meter inspections and valve operations.
• Maintain daily operational logs and submit accurate data using mobile tools.

Requirements & Qualifications

• KCSE, Craft Certificate, or Certificate in Water Operations, Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• Experience with pump operations and with operating and maintaining water treatment systems is an advantage.
• Comfort using smartphones and mobile data collection tools to record field information.
• Technical aptitude to understand and operate water system equipment.
• Integrity and discipline: reliable, consistent, and committed to following procedures.
• Keen attention to detail for accurate monitoring and reporting.
