Role Overview
This role is the operational heartbeat of a busy building materials and sanitaryware distribution centre on Ngong Road, Nairobi. You will take incoming customer orders from the digital management system and turn them into accurately picked, safely loaded, and properly documented deliveries, often within tight turnaround windows. Beyond moving goods, you will supervise loading crews, inspect fragile ceramic and sanitary products, maintain real-time stock records in SAP, and act as the on-floor link between sales teams, transport drivers, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor live order queues and prioritise picking and loading tasks so that urgent sales orders are fulfilled first, without sacrificing accuracy.
- Supervise warehouse assistants and casual loaders during the entire dispatch process, assigning tasks and verifying each order matches the customer's specification.
- Oversee the physical loading of tiles, basins, baths, taps, and other heavy or delicate items, ensuring weight distribution and protective measures prevent transit damage.
- Perform pre-dispatch checks by counting every unit against the delivery note, catching discrepancies before vehicles leave the yard.
- Receive inbound deliveries of building products, inspect them for damage or shortage, and update stock records in the warehouse management system.
- Maintain precise SAP entries for order completions, stock movements, returns, and transfers, while also running cycle counts and investigating any variances.
- Keep the warehouse floor organised and safe, clearing obstructions, managing pallet placement, and ensuring all team members wear the required PPE.
- Communicate directly with customers collecting orders and with showroom sales staff to resolve stock availability questions and speed up order turnaround.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline.
- At least two years of hands-on experience in warehouse dispatch, floor operations, or order fulfilment, ideally within retail, FMCG, hardware, or building materials.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate loading teams or casual labour in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Working knowledge of SAP or a comparable Warehouse Management System, plus solid competency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Forklift operation experience and a valid certification are a significant advantage.
- Physical fitness and a willingness to remain on the warehouse floor for full shifts, handling manual checks and assisting with loads when needed.
- A reliable, urgent work style that keeps speed high without compromising product safety or order accuracy.
- Strong communication skills for engaging professionally with drivers, customers, and internal teams under pressure.
