Warehouse Assistant

Role Overview

In this branch-based warehouse role, you are the person who keeps the stockroom honest — booking in deliveries of tyres, batteries and lubricants, putting them away so they can actually be found again, and picking the right items for dispatch so customers and fitting teams get what they asked for. The job sits at the point where paperwork meets physical stock, which means accuracy in both directions: what the system says and what is sitting on the rack need to match every single day. When the warehouse runs properly, the whole branch runs properly — fewer delays at the counter, fewer jobs held up mid-service, and a team that isn't chasing missing stock.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive incoming deliveries of tyres, batteries, lubricants and general stock, checking quantities and item details against delivery documentation before signing anything off.
• Report shortages, damaged goods and incorrect items to the relevant person promptly, and make sure the paperwork or system record reflects what actually arrived.
• Put away stock in its designated location, keeping product grouped, labelled and stacked safely so it can be picked quickly.
• Pick, prepare and stage outgoing orders for dispatch or customer collection, verifying sizes, specifications and quantities before they leave the warehouse.
• Maintain the stock management system as stock moves in, out and between locations so inventory records stay accurate and current.
• Carry out regular stock checks and assist with cycle counts or full stocktakes, investigating and correcting discrepancies where they arise.
• Keep the stockroom, aisles and loading areas clean, tidy and free of hazards, following safe manual handling practices when moving heavy items such as tyres and batteries.
• Work closely with counter, sales and fitting staff to confirm availability, locate stock and flag low or fast-moving lines before they become a problem.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a warehouse, stockroom or stores environment, ideally with automotive, tyre, battery or parts stock.
• Confident using a computerised stock or inventory system, plus basic accuracy with paperwork, scanning and data entry.
• Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on work, including repeated lifting, bending and moving of heavy and awkward items throughout the shift.
• Strong attention to detail — the kind of person who notices when a count is out by one or a part number doesn't match.
• Reliable timekeeping and a consistent work ethic, including the ability to keep pace during busy delivery and dispatch periods.
• Able to work safely and follow correct manual handling and storage procedures without needing to be reminded.
• Comfortable working as part of a small branch team, taking direction and pitching in wherever the workload is heaviest.
• Good verbal communication skills for coordinating with suppliers, drivers and internal colleagues.
