Role Overview
This is a senior, revenue-owning business development position for someone who can move comfortably between engineering conversations and commercial negotiations. Day to day, you will uncover and qualify opportunities across industrial, engineering, manufacturing, construction and commercial markets, shape them into technically credible proposals alongside internal engineering and product colleagues, and carry them through to signed contracts and repeat business. The role matters because the company's growth depends on turning deep technical capability into new accounts, deeper penetration of existing ones, and a dependable stream of tenders and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and deliver the business development plan that underpins revenue targets, growth goals and entry into new markets.
- Hunt, qualify and convert new business across industrial, engineering, manufacturing, construction and commercial sectors, managing everything from first outreach through to a closed deal.
- Build and sustain relationships with procurement teams, engineers, contractors, consultants and other decision-makers, and represent the company at client meetings, site visits, exhibitions and industry networking events.
- Run the full opportunity cycle — proposals, quotations, technical and commercial negotiation, closing and handover to delivery or onboarding teams.
- Work closely with internal engineering, product and proposal teams to translate each client's technical and commercial requirements into a solution the company can confidently stand behind.
- Identify and pursue tenders, RFQs, project work, contracts and partnerships, keeping a live pipeline with disciplined follow-up, forecasting and conversion tracking.
- Grow existing accounts through cross-selling, upselling, repeat business and long-term strategic account management.
- Research markets and competitors to spot emerging demand and new segments, and report regularly on revenue, new accounts, pipeline value, conversion rates, tender outcomes and progress against agreed targets.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or a closely related technical discipline; a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is strongly preferred.
- 10–15 years of relevant professional experience, ideally spanning technical sales, business development, engineering, industrial equipment, manufacturing, construction or engineered solutions.
- A demonstrable record of winning new business and meeting commercial or sales targets.
- Enough technical depth to speak credibly with engineers while also engaging non-technical buyers and decision-makers.
- Hands-on B2B business development and key account management experience.
- Practical exposure to tendering, quotation preparation, commercial proposals and contract negotiation.
- An existing industry network and established client relationships would be a distinct advantage.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, communication and relationship-management skills, supported by solid commercial awareness, analytical ability and business acumen.
- Able to work independently, manage your own pipeline and produce measurable results.
- Willingness to travel for client meetings, site visits and business development activity; a valid driving licence is an added advantage.
