Job Title: Specialists Clinic Unit Manager
Job Purpose
Planning, organizing, and coordinating all Specialists Clinic (SPC) unit activities, ensuring the provision of patient-centered nursing care, operational efficiency, and positive patient experience, in line with the hospital’s protocols and standards.
Key Responsibilities
People Management
- Supervise the SPC team in delivering individual and team targets by ensuring all nurses accurately perform their tasks, including admission, discharge, drug administration, clinical observations, infection prevention and control (IPC), and other duties; lead performance appraisals.
- Prepare monthly work schedules (ROTA) and ensure efficient use of overtime and locum staff.
- Provide leadership to ensure staff development, engagement, and performance; hold monthly staff meetings with documented evidence.
Financial Viability & Growth
- Ensure quality of care and service to achieve high patient retention rates by attaining high patient satisfaction scores and Net Promoter Score (NPS).
- Manage SPC unit costs within budget through appropriate staffing, timely and accurate billing, incidence management, and consumables control.
- Support marketing events as needed.
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Ensure proper inventory, standardization, calibration, and maintenance of all SPC equipment.
- Manage inventory and supplies prudently.
Nursing Services
- Review specific patients’ investigations, analyze, interpret, troubleshoot, and initiate immediate interventions.
- Ensure primary nurse engagement with doctors and other providers regarding patients’ plan of care, emphasizing a team-based problem-solving approach.
- Participate in formulation and implementation of SOPs and Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) in the unit, including enforcement of IPC standards and observation of infection control bundles.
- Ensure all nursing protocols are administered per set policies and guidelines; record and report all sentinel incidents/events within 24 hours using provided tools.
- Ensure proper and timely documentation of patient treatment, maintain proper records and confidentiality, and ensure effective handover between shifts.
- Ensure adequate knowledge of and compliance with all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially those pertaining to medical service provision.
- Ensure adherence to Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and implementing audit recommendations.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- Higher Diploma in Nursing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an added advantage.
- Valid Nursing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
- Valid certification in BLS, ACLS, or ATLS.
Experience
- 3+ years of general nursing experience.
- At least 2+ years of management experience.
