Job Description

Role Overview

This role focuses on delivering high-quality pharmacology instruction while contributing to curriculum development and departmental research. Day to day, the Tutorial Fellow prepares and presents lectures, facilitates practical lab sessions, and works closely with students to strengthen their understanding of clinical pharmacology. The position is essential for bridging academic teaching with industry connections, directly supporting graduate employability and the university’s research ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned pharmacology lectures and practical sessions for undergraduate programmes, ensuring clear learning outcomes and engagement.
  • Design and update course materials, syllabi, and assessment tools for both new and existing pharmacology units.
  • Collaborate with academic colleagues to review and improve curriculum content, incorporating current research and industry trends.
  • Conduct independent or collaborative research, prepare grant proposals, and seek consultancy opportunities in pharmacology or related fields.
  • Present research findings at national or international conferences, scientific symposiums, and webinars to disseminate knowledge and build institutional reputation.
  • Provide academic mentorship and career guidance to students, supporting their progression and professional development.
  • Contribute to departmental committees, programme reviews, and other administrative tasks as required by the Head of Department.
  • Undertake any additional duties reasonably assigned to support teaching, research, and community extension activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacology or Pharmacy from an accredited university; Bachelor’s degree in the same field also required.
  • At least three years of post-qualification work experience in a teaching, research, or clinical pharmacology setting.
  • Demonstrated potential for university-level teaching, research output, and community engagement.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, student-centred learning environment with high teaching standards.
  • Valid Pharmacy and Poisons Board Practice Licence (current and in good standing).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and time-management skills; ability to work independently and as part of an academic team.
