Role Overview
This Design teaching post puts you at the centre of how students learn to think like designers and problem-solvers. Day to day, you plan and teach units in Digital Design and Computer Science, run inquiry-led lessons, and judge student work against IB criteria — including serving as an internal examiner, which keeps assessment fair and consistent across the department. You report to the Head of Department and work alongside colleagues who share the same goal: that every learner leaves with genuine subject competence, a grasp of core concepts, and the confidence to act as a responsible global citizen.
Key Responsibilities
- Build units of study jointly with department colleagues, mapping them to IB curriculum standards at MYP and/or DP level.
- Set focused, attainable objectives for each lesson and teach in a structured, well-paced way that follows the agreed unit plan.
- Run lessons that lean into inquiry, drawing on technology and other resources to deepen understanding rather than simply cover content.
- Scaffold and adapt material so students working at different levels can all access design concepts and processes, breaking complex content into manageable steps.
- Connect classroom learning to authentic design problems and real-world contexts, so students build conceptual understanding that transfers.
- Maintain a safe, positive learning space and protect teaching time from disruption.
- Plan and document a mix of formative and summative assessments grounded in IB criterion-based practice, producing accurate results that reflect what students can actually do.
- Write clear, constructive report cards that point to specific next steps, and take an active part in Parent-Teacher Conferences to help families understand their child's progress.
- Serve as a Homeroom Tutor providing academic and pastoral support, mentor students through Service as Action / CAS projects, contribute to a co-curricular club, and support school trips when required.
- Review your own practice against evidence and colleague feedback, and take ownership of your professional development.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Design/Technology combined with a recognised teaching qualification.
- Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- At least five years teaching Digital Design, ideally in an IB World School or a comparable international education system.
- IB certification in Design (MYP and/or DP) is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience designing, delivering and assessing curriculum through criterion-based methods such as IB rubrics.
- Track record of integrating technology into instruction and differentiating for varied learner needs.
- Strong subject knowledge in Digital Design and the instructional skill to teach it well.
- A collaborative approach and clear communication with students, colleagues and parents.
- Adaptability, strong planning and record-keeping habits, and a real interest in inquiry-based teaching.
- Commitment to high ethical standards, confidentiality, professionalism and safeguarding children's welfare.
Why Join
- Work within a department that plans and delivers the IB curriculum together, under the guidance of a Head of Department.
- Genuine scope to shape your own professional growth, with a school culture that expects reflection and continued learning.
- Influence students beyond the classroom through homeroom tutoring, Service as Action / CAS mentoring, co-curricular clubs and trips.
- Teach in an environment built around inquiry, student wellbeing and holistic development.
