Role Overview
This appointment supports the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering by bringing a doctoral researcher into its teaching and research workforce, with a clear focus on power systems. In practice, the role balances classroom and laboratory instruction with ongoing PhD study, helping to deliver engineering education while contributing to the department's research and innovation goals. The post is central to maintaining strong undergraduate teaching and expanding the department's academic output in electrical power engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and facilitate lectures, tutorial sessions, and laboratory practicals in power systems and related electrical engineering subjects.
- Assist senior academic staff with the design and marking of assignments, practical reports, and examination scripts.
- Supervise undergraduate student projects, particularly those involving power system analysis, machine operation, or energy delivery.
- Conduct doctoral research aligned with the department's power systems interests and pursue publication in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings.
- Support the management and safe operation of electrical machinery and power systems laboratory equipment.
- Contribute to departmental academic activities, including curriculum development, student assessment, and quality assurance processes.
- Participate in research seminars, innovation projects, and other scholarly initiatives that strengthen the department's academic profile.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with a bias toward Power Systems, or an equivalent qualification from an accredited university.
- Current registration for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or another equivalent doctoral programme, with demonstrable progress or active study toward that qualification.
- Full registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional engineering body.
- Clear potential to contribute effectively to teaching, laboratory instruction, research, innovation, and general academic activities within the department.
- A commitment to completing doctoral research while actively participating in the university's undergraduate teaching needs.
- Strong academic writing and communication abilities, with the capacity to present technical concepts clearly to engineering students.
