Tupande Cashew Extension & Aggregation Officer (Fixed-term)

Role Overview

This position puts you at the centre of Tupande's coastal cashew operation, running a buying centre where smallholder farmers sell raw cashew nuts and where every kilo must be weighed, graded, paid for, and documented correctly. You are the programme's face in your area — the person farmers turn to with questions about price, quality, or collection timing, and the person your Supervisor depends on for honest figures and early warning when something goes wrong. Done well, the centre becomes a market outlet coastal households can rely on and a source of clean data the wider programme can plan around.

Key Responsibilities

• Open and operate the buying centre during its scheduled hours, keeping the site clean, organised, and secure, and handling, drying, and storing raw cashew nuts according to Tupande's standard operating procedures.
• Weigh every purchase accurately and grade incoming nuts at the point of sale, sorting out damaged, mouldy, or otherwise substandard stock before it enters the store.
• Process farmer payments through FieldPro and keep accompanying records compliant with KRA/eTIMS requirements, escalating any dispute, discrepancy, or irregularity to your Supervisor without delay.
• Deliver agronomic training to farmers in your assigned location and make sure they clearly understand the quality and condition standards the centre will and will not accept.
• Carry out field visits and prepare field reports for your Supervisor, coordinating with Tupande Agents and Zone Supervisors to mobilise farmers into the programme.
• Interview farmers and brokers and enter the resulting data promptly using the provided digital tools, including stock takes and farmer/broker scouting, flagging data-quality issues as soon as they appear.
• Coordinate with loaders, Tupande's logistics team, and your Supervisor to schedule and execute raw cashew nut collections so stock leaves the centre on time.

Requirements & Qualifications

Required

• A verifiable employment record or references showing prior work with an agricultural, aggregation, trading, or comparable operations employer.
• Ability to read and write in English and the local language, and to perform basic arithmetic confidently.
• Demonstrated integrity and accountability when handling agricultural goods, weighing, and record-keeping.
• Fluency in Kiswahili and familiarity with local coastal language(s).
• Computer literacy, including comfort with tablet or smartphone data-collection tools.
• High attention to detail in quality control, record-keeping, and payment processing.
• Independent, proactive, and problem-solving — able to operate with limited daily supervision.
• Willingness and ability to travel across the assigned area and to handle raw cashew nuts hands-on.
• A strong connection to the local farming community.

Nice to have

• Prior experience with cashew and/or on the Coast.
• Prior experience operating a buying or collection centre.
• Familiarity with Tupande.
