Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and emotionally resilient Transport Supervisor to lead the logistics division of a reputable funeral home in Nairobi. This role requires a unique blend of operational precision and professional sensitivity. You will be responsible for the seamless coordination of fleet movements—ranging from local removals to complex inter-county transfers and repatriations. Your mission is to ensure that vehicles are always operationally ready, drivers are strictly disciplined, and services are executed with the utmost punctuality and respect for the families we serve.

Responsibilities:

Fleet Operations & Dispatch Strategy

  • Orchestrate all vehicle movements for hospital removals, funeral services, airport pickups, and inter-branch transfers.

  • Prioritize urgent service calls and coordinate day and night shift schedules to ensure 24/7 operational readiness.

  • Monitor fuel consumption, mileage logs, and GPS tracking to optimize route efficiency and resource usage.

  • Verify that every vehicle is meticulously cleaned, fueled, and mechanically inspected prior to every dispatch.

Driver Management & Professional Standards

  • Lead and supervise a team of day and night-shift drivers, enforcing strict adherence to duty rosters and company policies.

  • Conduct regular training sessions focused on defensive driving, safety protocols, and compassionate client handling.

  • Enforce compliance regarding speed limits, route adherence, and the absolute prohibition of unauthorized vehicle use.

  • Manage personnel issues, including absenteeism and misconduct, escalating to HR for disciplinary action when required.

Maintenance, Safety & Legal Compliance

  • Ensure the entire fleet meets all statutory requirements, including up-to-date insurance, inspections, and licensing.

  • Liaise with mechanics and garages to oversee servicing schedules, tire replacements, and rapid response to emergency breakdowns.

  • Implement and monitor accident reporting procedures, assisting in internal investigations as necessary.

  • Conduct frequent spot checks on logbooks and vehicle condition to maintain high safety standards.

Administrative Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive daily and weekly reports on fuel efficiency, driver performance, and vehicle wear-and-tear.

  • Maintain accurate records of funeral allocations and client feedback specifically related to transport services.

  • Proactively update management on operational risks, resource shortages, or logistical gaps.

Professional Requirements

  • Education: Diploma in Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain, or Business Administration.

  • Experience: 3–5 years of progressive experience in fleet management or transport supervision.

  • Licensing: Valid Kenyan driving license (Class B); Class BCE with a clean record is a significant advantage.

  • Contextual Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Nairobi’s road networks, airport logistics, and inter-county routes.

Essential Criteria

  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage a team of drivers in a fast-paced and emotionally sensitive environment.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to track data, identify fuel wastage, and optimize scheduling.
