Job Description

Role Overview

As a Plantations Management Trainee, you will support daily estate operations across field supervision, worker coordination, and crop monitoring. Your work directly influences yield targets and worker welfare, making you a crucial link between senior management and ground-level teams. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong leadership instincts with practical problem-solving in a demanding agricultural environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing field activities such as fertiliser application, weed control, and pruning schedules.
  • Monitor labour productivity and attendance, ensuring work norms are met while maintaining safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily harvest volumes, input usage, and worker deployment for monthly reporting.
  • Coordinate with welfare officers to address worker accommodation, health, and training needs on the estate.
  • Conduct regular field inspections to identify pest outbreaks, drainage issues, or soil deficiencies and escalate timely solutions.
  • Participate in management meetings to present performance data and contribute to operational improvement plans.
  • Supervise junior supervisors and field assistants, providing on-the-job guidance and performance feedback.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in Agriculture, Business Management, or a related field is preferred; A/L completion with a NIPM Plantations Management Course is a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential through prior internships, student organisations, or work experience in a hierarchical setting.
  • Excellent command of English for preparing reports and communicating with senior management; ability to communicate in Sinhala and/or Tamil is an added benefit for worker interaction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach to field data and worker welfare matters.
  • Effective team coordination skills, including the ability to delegate tasks and resolve minor conflicts among workers.
  • Willingness to live on or near the plantation estate and work flexible hours during peak seasons.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role provides hands-on exposure to the entire plantation management cycle, from field agronomy to labour relations, within a structured training environment. You will gain mentorship from experienced estate managers and build a career path into senior supervisory roles. The company invests in professional development through internal workshops and the opportunity to apply NIPM coursework in real-world operations.
