Job Description

Role Overview

As a Trade Development Representative (Reliever), you are the face of the business in the field, responsible for keeping sales moving across an assigned territory of retail outlets and distributors. You step in when a member of the main TDR team is on leave, picking up their call cycle and territory so that service, availability and relationships never drop off. This matters because in FMCG, an uncovered route means missed orders, lost display space and competitors gaining ground — your presence keeps the numbers and the relationships intact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work a defined territory on a daily call cycle, visiting retail outlets and distributors according to the agreed route plan.
  • Take and confirm orders accurately, then follow up to ensure timely delivery and resolve any shortfalls or discrepancies.
  • Secure and maintain display space, check shelf availability, confirm correct pricing and make sure merchandising standards are met on every call.
  • Execute promotions and activations in-store, including point-of-sale material placement and stock rotation.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with shop owners, store managers and distributor staff to keep the products front of mind.
  • Monitor competitor pricing, promotions and new product activity in the area, and report what you see back to the sales team.
  • Track and report on sales performance against targets, submitting daily or weekly field reports as required.
  • Handle routine trade queries such as stock freshness, returns and damaged goods in line with company procedure.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • At least two years of hands-on experience in sales or within the FMCG sector.
  • Solid working knowledge of the assigned area, including its outlets, routes and trading patterns.
  • Strong verbal communication and customer relationship skills, with the confidence to negotiate with trade partners face to face.
  • Ability to work independently in the field, manage your own day and stay productive without close supervision.
  • Prior experience dealing with retailers and/or distributors is a distinct advantage.
  • A valid Driver's Licence is required, as the role involves daily travel across the territory.
  • A qualification in sales, marketing, business or a related discipline is welcome, though demonstrated field performance and familiarity with the territory carry the most weight.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Five reliever positions available, giving you the chance to cover established territories rather than build a route from scratch.
  • A field-based role with real autonomy — you plan your calls, manage your route and own the results in your area.
  • The opportunity to work across different outlets and distributors, building trade relationships and FMCG experience quickly.
  • A role suited to someone who prefers being on the road and in front of customers over sitting behind a desk.
