Role Overview
We are taking on five Trade Development Representatives on a relief basis to stand in for members of our core TDR team while they are on leave. You will step straight into a live territory, run the existing call cycle across your assigned outlets, and make sure that availability, visibility and order flow do not dip simply because a regular representative is away. This is frontline field work with real ownership: the relationships you hold together and the sales you protect during your cover period directly shape how the territory performs.
Key Responsibilities
- Take over an assigned route or territory for the duration of the relief period, following the established call cycle and visiting the full outlet base within agreed frequency.
- Secure and capture orders from retailers and outlets, checking quantities and product mix, and passing them through for correct and timely processing.
- Drive on-shelf availability and visibility by checking stock levels, arranging products to agreed layouts, and deploying point-of-sale and promotional material.
- Build and maintain working relationships with outlet owners, managers and shop staff so that you are a familiar and trusted point of contact rather than an interruption.
- Liaise with distributors and wholesalers on stock movement, delivery follow-up and any order or supply issues arising in the territory.
- Track competitor pricing, new launches and trade activity, and feed clear observations back to the line manager.
- Execute promotions, activations and trade campaigns in outlets as briefed, confirming compliance and reporting outcomes.
- Keep accurate daily call records, sales figures and outlet notes, and submit reports on time so that coverage gaps are visible and manageable.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least two years of hands-on experience in sales, ideally within FMCG or a comparable fast-moving consumer goods environment.
- Sound working knowledge of the area you are assigned to, including its outlets, routes and local market dynamics.
- Strong communication and customer relationship skills, with the confidence to hold a conversation with a busy retailer and close an order.
- The ability to work independently in the field — planning your own day, managing your time, and staying productive without close supervision.
- Prior experience calling on retailers or working alongside distributors is a distinct advantage.
- A valid Driver's License, with the willingness and means to travel across the territory daily.
- A proven selling track record carries more weight here than formal qualifications; comfort with basic sales reporting and numeracy is expected.
