Gas Plant Operator

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Gas Plant Operator to manage the safe and efficient operation of hydrogen and nitrogen gas plants. The role ensures a steady supply of industrial gases and LPG to production lines while maintaining equipment health, process parameters, and quality targets. You will work closely with production and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues, implement preventive actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate hydrogen and nitrogen gas plants, including all associated equipment.
• Ensure a steady supply of nitrogen and hydrogen gases to the Metal Coating Line (MCL) and annealing furnace.
• Regularly monitor equipment health and report malfunctions to the production supervisor and maintenance supervisors.
• Record all process parameters in the provided shift log sheets.
• Troubleshoot process abnormalities and initiate preventive or corrective actions.
• Report all cases of equipment malfunction to the Metal Coating Line production engineer.
• Carry out safe LPG offloading and ensure a steady supply to the Metal Coating Line, Colour Coating Line, and ARP.
• Work closely with the production team to meet daily production and quality targets.
• Send flash reports on matters pertaining to gas plant operations.
• Prepare daily LPG consumption reports.
• Implement 6S standards in the gas plant area.
• Prepare and replenish potassium hydroxide solution for the hydrogen plant.
• Participate in shutdown activities as and when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Instrumentation, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum three (3) years' experience in a process industry environment such as oil & gas, petrochemical plants, refineries, or industrial gas operations.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and Process Flow Diagrams.
• Knowledge of DCS/SCADA systems and process control operations.
• Good communication skills in English and Swahili.

Desired Experience

• Industrial gas plants
• Oil & gas operations
• Petrochemical or refinery environments
• Air Separation Units (ASUs) and Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) systems
• LPG storage and handling facilities
• Process plants utilising DCS/SCADA control systems
