Forklift &Wheel Loader Operator

Role Overview

This position places you at the heart of a busy fertilizer handling terminal in Mombasa, where you will operate forklifts and wheel loaders to keep bagged and bulk product moving smoothly from ship to warehouse to truck. Your daily focus will be on completing loading, unloading, stacking, and transfer tasks without compromising safety, accuracy, or throughput. The work directly supports the terminal’s ability to receive vessels, stage inventory correctly, and dispatch outbound loads on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive shift instructions and move fertilizer, pallets, and equipment between vessel discharge points, warehouse bays, yard areas, and weighbridge stations as directed.
• Safely operate forklifts and wheel loaders to load, unload, transport, stack, and store regular bags and sling (Big Bag) fertilizer loads, ensuring every load is balanced and secure before travel.
• Support both inbound vessel unloading and outbound truck loading operations, positioning equipment accurately and following marshalling signals to keep traffic flowing safely.
• Load and unload commercial trucks and container trailers, stacking palletized or bagged goods in the correct bays and heights according to warehouse layout standards.
• Complete daily pre-operation checks on tyres, hydraulics, brakes, forks, and safety systems; report any defects immediately so maintenance can resolve issues before they cause downtime.
• Move with caution around pedestrians, stock piles, and other machinery, respecting site speed limits, height restrictions, and right-of-way rules at all times.
• Maintain accurate tallies of materials handled, assist with stock counts, and complete shift logs, delivery receipts, and handover notes as required.
• Assist with general warehouse duties such as sorting, packing, and supporting hand crews during peak vessel discharge periods or high-demand seasons.
• Park, secure, and refuel or recharge equipment properly at the end of each shift, and keep your machine clean to help spot early signs of wear or damage.
• Report any safety hazards you observe and follow the client’s Golden Rules, PPE requirements, and traffic control instructions without exception.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum KCSE certificate or an equivalent academic qualification.
• At least three years of continuous, hands-on experience operating forklifts and/or wheel loaders in a busy port, terminal, warehouse, or manufacturing setting; experience with fertilizer, bulk commodities, or port operations is a clear advantage.
• A valid NTSA or equivalent forklift/wheel loader operator certification from an accredited institution is mandatory; candidates without this certification will not be considered.
• A valid Certificate of Good Conduct is required.
• Solid understanding of warehouse layouts, stacking limits, pallet configuration, and inventory control procedures.
• Good hand-eye coordination, strong attention to detail, and a consistent safety-first approach to every task.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including extended 11–12 hour shifts and overtime during peak seasons.
