Role Overview

This position places you at the operational heart of a busy industrial site, where you will be the on-the-ground authority for all health, safety, environmental, and quality matters across warehousing, product blending, and loading activities. Your daily focus is to ensure every worker returns home safely by enforcing strict compliance standards, conducting hands-on inspections, and embedding a proactive safety mindset through coaching and visible leadership. You will act as the direct link between the contractor workforce and the client’s internal HESQ team, making your ability to influence and communicate just as critical as your technical knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the day-to-day execution of the HESQ management system, adapting it to changing site conditions and ensuring contractor activities consistently meet ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 expectations.
• Plan, deliver, and document safety inductions, hazard awareness sessions, and emergency response drills so that every worker is fully prepared before stepping onto the operational floor.
• Lead systematic risk identification exercises, including HIRADC studies and job hazard analyses, and translate findings into practical safe systems of work and permit-to-work controls for high-risk tasks such as vessel-side operations.
• Carry out regular walkthroughs of blending, bagging, rebagging, and loading zones to verify PPE compliance, inspect equipment condition, and identify unsafe acts or conditions before they lead to incidents.
• Investigate all near misses and incidents using structured root-cause techniques, then drive corrective actions to completion within defined deadlines while keeping detailed records for audit and review.
• Apply the client’s Golden Rules without compromise, using the established penalty and disciplinary framework to address violations, escalate serious breaches, and coordinate work suspensions when necessary.
• Oversee environmental controls for spill response, dust suppression, noise monitoring, and waste segregation, ensuring spill kits are always stocked and accessible at every handling point.
• Maintain live HESQ registers, training matrices, and compliance logs, and represent the contractor at client safety reviews, quarterly scorecards, and external audit sessions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on HESQ experience within industrial, warehouse, port, or manufacturing settings; direct experience handling fertilizers or bulk commodities is a strong advantage.
• Mandatory NEBOSH, IOSH, or an equivalent recognized occupational safety qualification.
• First Aid and Fire Marshal certification, or a clear willingness to obtain it, so that at least two certified first aiders and fire marshals are always present per shift.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean incident record over the past 24 months, with proven skill in incident investigation and root-cause analysis.
• Practical auditing and training delivery capability, plus the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviour and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Solid proficiency with MS Office applications and incident management or reporting tools.
• Familiarity with IFA Fertilizer Safety guidelines and integrated management system (IMS) certification is desirable but not mandatory.
