Job Description

Role Overview

This position is for a practicing land surveyor who will carry out precise angular and distance measurements across a mix of medium and high-density projects, including topographical mapping, general engineering works, subdivision schemes, cadastral surveys, and photo-control establishment. Day to day, you will be in the field collecting survey data, then moving into the office to compute results, produce maps, and verify that all ground control points are accurate and legally compliant. Your work directly supports infrastructure planning, land registration, and development approval processes, making reliable measurement and careful record-keeping essential to project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute field surveys using total stations, GNSS receivers, and other geodetic instruments to capture angular and distance data for topographical, engineering, cadastral, and photo-control assignments.
  • Compute survey measurements, adjust traverse closures, and calculate coordinates, bearings, and elevations to produce accurate survey datasets.
  • Establish and verify ground control points for mapping and engineering projects, ensuring proper monumentation and reference documentation.
  • Prepare subdivision schemes and cadastral survey plans in line with Kenyan survey regulations and registration requirements.
  • Produce detailed topographical maps, engineering survey drawings, and as-built plans using CAD and GIS software.
  • Maintain field notes, survey logs, and computation records that meet professional and statutory standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, land administrators, and other stakeholders to provide survey data that supports design, construction, and land title processing.
  • Ensure all survey equipment is calibrated, maintained, and fit for purpose before and after each assignment.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in land surveying, geomatics, geomatic engineering, geospatial engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya.
  • Full registration as a member of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK).
  • A valid certificate in computer application skills, demonstrating proficiency in spreadsheets, word processing, and survey or mapping software.
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, including relevant clearances and declarations.
  • Hands-on experience with field survey instruments, computational methods, and plan production is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple survey tasks within deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, mathematical accuracy, and clear communication skills for reporting survey results.
