Role Overview
This is a hands-on stores role for someone who takes genuine satisfaction in a tidy, well-controlled stockroom and records they can trust. Day to day you are the gatekeeper of material flow: raw materials and bought-in items arrive on your watch, materials leave for production against manufacturing orders, and finished goods come back from packing. Getting those movements right — accurately, on time, and backed by clean paperwork — is what keeps production running and the inventory system honest.
Key Responsibilities
- Book in every raw material and bought-in item against its purchase order, checking quantity and condition, recording true receipt dates, and raising shortages, overages or damage with the relevant team rather than letting them slide.
- Issue materials to production against manufacturing orders and post the consumption so issued stock and system stock stay aligned.
- Take finished goods from packing into the finished-goods store and record them into the inventory system.
- Carry out picking, packing and transfer transactions, making sure each movement is captured in the system at the time it happens.
- Own stock accuracy by running regular cycle counts, keeping bin locations correct, reconciling counted stock against system records, and investigating and closing out discrepancies.
- Keep the stores clean, clearly labelled, organised and secure, applying FIFO where product shelf life or rotation requires it.
- Watch for low-stock and reorder triggers, escalate them to the Inventory Planner, and support the replenishment cycle with reliable stock data.
- Maintain clear receiving records, movement logs and stock reports, and uphold safety and housekeeping standards across the stores area.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least three years in a stores, warehouse or inventory control position, ideally within manufacturing or retail distribution.
- Practical, hands-on experience working inside an inventory, MRP or ERP system, plus the confidence to pick up a new platform quickly.
- Strong numeracy and a low tolerance for error, with a disciplined and systematic approach to record-keeping.
- Understanding of bills of materials (BOMs) and how material issues relate to manufacturing orders.
- Familiarity with cycle-counting routines and the day-to-day practices that keep stock accurate.
- Organised, dependable and straightforward — someone who can be trusted with stock, records and access to the stores.
