Role Overview
The Tutorial Fellow/Lecturer in Pharmacology is a teaching-focused academic position responsible for delivering pharmacology instruction to pharmacy students, supervising their research and clinical training, and contributing to curriculum development and research output. This role is central to preparing graduates who are ready for the demands of modern pharmacy practice and to strengthening the link between academic training and industry needs. The successful candidate will also pursue research, seek external funding, and engage in consultancies that support the department's long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach pharmacology units assigned by the Head of Department, ensuring content is current and clinically relevant.
- Design, plan, and deliver new and existing courses at various levels, including lectures, tutorials, and practical laboratory sessions.
- Assess student learning through written examinations, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), coursework, and practical evaluations.
- Supervise student research projects, dissertations, and clinical placements, providing academic and professional guidance.
- Review and update pharmacy course materials and curricula in collaboration with academic colleagues.
- Conduct original research, write grant proposals, and disseminate findings at national and international conferences, symposia, and webinars.
- Pursue and participate in consultancy activities that apply pharmacological expertise to real-world problems.
- Mentor students and junior staff, offering career guidance and supporting their academic development.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Pharmacology or an MSc in Molecular Pharmacology from an accredited or recognized university.
- A Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited or recognized university.
- At least three years of post-qualification work experience in a relevant field.
- A valid Pharmacy and Poisons Board Practice License.
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the university level, with strong communication and presentation skills.
- Proven capacity for research, including grant writing and publication, and a record of or potential for securing research funding.
- Strategic and forward-thinking mindset, with the ability to build bridges between academia and industry and to enhance graduate employability.
- Entrepreneurial acumen and a student-centric approach to teaching and mentorship.
- Strong collaborative skills for curriculum development and cross-disciplinary research activities.
