Role Overview
This position sits at the intersection of space science and information technology, focusing on the systems that keep space-related operations running reliably. Day to day, you will manage ICT infrastructure, oversee security and data backup measures, and support enterprise applications used by space programs. Your work ensures that critical data from space missions remains accessible, secure, and well-integrated, enabling researchers and operational teams to make timely decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and enforce ICT policies and system designs tailored to the specific demands of space operations, keeping them aligned with evolving mission needs.
- Oversee the availability and security of space-focused ICT hardware, networks, and corporate platforms, proactively addressing potential weaknesses to maintain uninterrupted service delivery.
- Implement robust backup strategies, disaster recovery procedures, and cybersecurity controls that protect sensitive space data and maintain system resilience against emerging threats.
- Coordinate the rollout, configuration, and lifecycle management of enterprise applications and specialised space software, ensuring they meet operational requirements and integrate smoothly with existing infrastructure.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues across space ICT systems, ranging from user access problems to complex network or application failures, and document solutions for future reference.
- Research emerging technologies and cost-effective digital tools that could improve operational efficiency, then recommend and pilot those that show clear value for space-related services.
- Work closely with scientists, engineers, and external partners to support research initiatives involving space digital infrastructure, ensuring technical inputs align with broader innovation goals.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and capacity-building activities by organising training sessions, crafting user documentation, and promoting best practices around space ICT services.
- Support risk management efforts by identifying vulnerabilities in ICT infrastructure and service delivery, conducting assessments, and coordinating mitigation actions with relevant teams.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Science, Geospatial Engineering, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Control and Instrumentation, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Strong working knowledge of computer applications, including productivity tools, operating systems, and common enterprise software used in technical or administrative environments.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results, as evidenced by consistent work performance, problem-solving capability, and a track record of meeting objectives in previous roles.
- Familiarity with ICT infrastructure concepts such as networking, database management, cybersecurity fundamentals, and system administration is expected for this seniority.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the capacity to diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective, lasting solutions.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities, suitable for engaging with multidisciplinary teams across scientific, engineering, and administrative functions.
