Forward-Deployed Engineer

Role Overview

As a Senior Forward Deployment Engineer, you will work directly with a strategic enterprise customer, combining hands-on software engineering with technical advisory and solution design. You will turn the customer’s needs into working integrations, prototypes, and production-ready approaches, while helping internal product and engineering teams understand what the customer needs to succeed.

The role suits an engineer who is comfortable moving between implementation, architecture, and customer conversations, and who is willing to explore AI-assisted workflows, agent development, product ownership, and requirements analysis where they help solve real problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the day-to-day technical relationship with the customer, advising engineering and executive stakeholders on platform capabilities and solution options.
• Investigate the customer’s technical environment and design architectures that fit its systems, security requirements, and operational needs, particularly on Google Cloud Platform.
• Scope and build tailored demonstrations, proofs of concept, and prototypes, taking promising solutions toward production use where appropriate.
• Develop and troubleshoot integrations, APIs, deployment workflows, and data flows alongside the customer’s engineering, infrastructure, and security teams.
• Diagnose deployment, performance, infrastructure, and integration problems, helping customer teams identify causes and implement practical fixes.
• Work with presales colleagues to shape future solution designs, explain technical value, and identify opportunities to broaden the customer’s use of the platform.
• Bring customer requirements and recurring technical challenges to internal product and engineering teams, helping inform product priorities and enterprise features.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least 10 years of hands-on experience in software engineering, backend systems, cloud architecture, site reliability engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong coding ability in one or more modern languages such as Python, Java, TypeScript or Node.js; experience with Go or Rust is also relevant.
• Substantial experience with Google Cloud Platform, container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and contemporary CI/CD practices.
• Experience designing and integrating REST or gRPC APIs, microservices, data pipelines, and enterprise security systems, including areas such as SAML, OAuth, and VPC networking.
• Ability to explain and defend technical designs with senior developers, while also presenting architecture and trade-offs clearly to CTO- and VP-level stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the judgment and empathy to build lasting working relationships with customer engineering teams.
• High autonomy and a practical, persistent approach to ambiguous problems, including the ability to develop solutions without waiting for complete instructions.
• Experience in AI/ML infrastructure, distributed systems, high-throughput data processing, cybersecurity, technical presales, forward deployment, or technical account management is an advantage.
• Familiarity with financial services, payments, or FinTech environments—and their security, regulatory, and transaction-volume considerations—is beneficial. Experience with Azure, AWS, or Huawei Cloud is also useful.
