Job Description

Role Overview

This role is the bridge between county-level advocacy champions and the broader agricultural transformation agenda in your assigned cluster. Day to day, you will ensure that local champions follow through on agreed actions, keep county departments engaged, and feed real‑world field insights back to the programme. Your work matters because it turns policy influence into on‑the‑ground adoption of agroecology, climate‑smart farming and renewable energy solutions among smallholder farmer groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track and follow up with county advocacy champions on their assigned activities, timelines, evidence collection and progress reporting, flagging any delays or support needs.
  • Maintain consistent communication with ward and sub‑county agricultural officers, county government departments and public extension structures to ensure alignment and buy‑in.
  • Participate in relevant county, partner and multi‑stakeholder meetings, documenting key decisions, action items and follow‑up opportunities for the advocacy team.
  • Create practical connections between advocacy champions, farmer organisations and complementary programmes in agroecology, climate‑smart agriculture, renewable energy, market access and finance.
  • Support the recruitment, orientation and ongoing engagement of new Society of Crop Agribusiness Advisors (SOCAA) members within the county, strengthening the local network.
  • Provide basic extension and advisory support to farmer groups, including referrals to technical experts, organising demonstration plots and monitoring adoption of RA‑PURE solutions.
  • Maintain an updated database of county stakeholder contacts, and submit concise field updates, activity records, photographs, case studies and emerging risks to the Advocacy Officer in a timely manner.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Community Development, Natural Resources or a directly related field.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in field extension, farmer mobilisation, project implementation, stakeholder engagement or advocacy support.
  • Residence within one of the counties in the cluster applied for, coupled with strong working networks and demonstrated familiarity with local agricultural systems and governance.
  • Solid understanding of county government structures and the agricultural extension system; familiarity with agroecology, regenerative agriculture or renewable energy in farming is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and relationship‑management skills, with proven ability to maintain detailed records and write clear reports.
  • Capacity to work independently, travel regularly within the county, and use email, messaging applications (e.g., WhatsApp, Telegram) and standard digital reporting tools.
  • Current SOCAA membership is an advantage; non‑members must be willing to meet applicable professional membership requirements and fees.

What We Offer / Why Join

This position offers the chance to directly influence agricultural policy and practice at the county level while building lasting relationships with farmers, government officers and civil society actors. You will gain hands‑on experience in multi‑stakeholder advocacy, agroecological programming and field‑level monitoring, working with a network committed to sustainable food systems. The role also provides a platform to strengthen your professional credentials through SOCAA membership and regular engagement with technical experts across the region.
