Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack

Role Overview

You will own end-to-end delivery of payout features that move money reliably from Peach Payments to merchants, beneficiaries, and partners across Africa. Day to day, you design and build full-stack solutions for disbursement orchestration, reconciliation, and operational tooling, while also troubleshooting production issues and guiding less senior engineers through pairing and code reviews. Your work directly supports the company’s mission to scale secure, compliant payment infrastructure across a fast-growing region.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy new payout capabilities and improve existing services across the entire stack.
• Translate business and technical requirements into robust, scalable backend solutions that integrate with external partners and internal systems.
• Ensure all payout processing adheres to security, compliance, and observability standards, using monitoring tools and logging to catch issues early.
• Diagnose and resolve production incidents independently by analysing logs, metrics, and code to identify root causes and implement fixes.
• Lead complex initiatives from initial design through to delivery with minimal oversight, balancing speed with long-term maintainability.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through regular pairing sessions, thoughtful code reviews, and hands-on coaching to raise the team’s collective skill level.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT) thoughtfully to accelerate delivery while preserving code quality, security, and personal accountability.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, operations, and external partners to align technical roadmaps with merchant needs and new business opportunities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily in cloud-based backend development, with comfort across the full stack.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Python for production systems.
• Hands-on AWS experience, especially with Lambda, API Gateway, and Serverless architectures.
• Solid database skills across PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and MongoDB.
• Practical experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to enhance productivity while maintaining judgement, testing, and security practices.
• Proven ability to design elegant, scalable solutions and iteratively improve existing systems toward modern best practices.
• Demonstrated ownership of complex projects in a fast-paced, high-scale environment, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and keep stakeholders informed.
• Active mentorship mindset: comfortable providing clear feedback, pairing, and knowledge sharing to help less senior engineers grow.
• Excellent written and verbal English, enabling effective collaboration in a remote/hybrid team.
• Bonus: prior experience with payments, financial disbursements, or similar regulated financial systems.
