Role Overview
This position places you at the heart of the bank’s corporate lending and advisory effort for the Oil & Gas sector, where you will own a portfolio of established clients while actively hunting for new relationships. Day to day, you will act as the trusted financial partner for these companies, shaping account strategies, structuring credit and non-credit solutions, and coordinating with product specialists to turn client needs into executed deals. Your work directly drives the bank’s revenue growth, portfolio quality, and market share within a strategically important industry segment, and you may also step in to lead the broader corporate banking team in Nairobi when the Head is away.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage a dedicated portfolio of corporate clients in the Oil & Gas space, serving as their main point of contact and advisor for all banking needs.
- Develop and maintain clear account plans that map out revenue potential, cross-selling opportunities, and relationship milestones for each client in the portfolio.
- Identify, pursue, and convert new corporate clients into bank relationships to expand the sector book and grow the bank’s share of the customer’s wallet.
- Structure and pitch tailored financial solutions—including lending, trade finance, cash management, and advisory services—in collaboration with product teams.
- Monitor portfolio credit health, acting quickly on early warning signs to contain non-performing loans and keep the PAR ratio within the set threshold.
- Drive client satisfaction by tracking feedback metrics, resolving escalated issues, and ensuring that service delivery matches the commitments made at the point of sale.
- Maintain accurate and current customer relationship data in the CRM, and use that intelligence to inform relationship reviews and business development moves.
- Work with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth onboarding, documentation, compliance, and ongoing service for every client, while also meeting agreed turnaround times.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university; an MBA or professional banking certification is a plus.
- At least 8 years of experience in commercial banking, with a minimum of 3 years in a management role overseeing relationship officers or similar teams.
- Demonstrated history of hitting financial growth targets in corporate banking, with a reputation as a trusted adviser to business clients.
- Strong working knowledge of corporate credit structuring, trade products, cash management, and the regulatory framework governing banking in the local market.
- Proven ability to build senior-level client relationships, influence internal stakeholders, and negotiate commercial terms that satisfy both client and bank.
- Familiarity with the Oil & Gas value chain, including upstream, midstream, and downstream players, and the unique financial challenges that sector faces.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with the capacity to lead a team and act as a stand-in leader when required.
