Job Description

Role Overview

This position places a seasoned finance professional at the financial heart of an oil and gas group whose headquarters are in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based in Lubumbashi, you will oversee the company’s accounting integrity, treasury strength, and trade finance activity across Central and East Africa, with direct accountability to the Board of Directors. Your daily work involves steering IFRS-compliant reporting cycles, modernising financial systems through ERP adoption, and building the banking partnerships that keep regional operations funded and compliant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end accounting function, ensuring every transaction is recorded to IFRS standards and aligned with DRC statutory requirements.
  • Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, preparing balance sheet reconciliations, profit-and-loss statements, and supporting schedules for director-level review.
  • Lead the selection, configuration, and data migration of a new ERP accounting platform, working closely with operational teams to ensure smooth user adoption and data integrity.
  • Design and monitor internal controls, coordinate annual external audits, and serve as the main point of contact for audit partners and tax authorities.
  • Manage daily treasury operations, including cash positioning, liquidity forecasting, working capital optimisation, and multi-currency cash flow modelling.
  • Structure trade finance instruments such as letters of credit, bank guarantees, and documentary collections, while negotiating terms with financial institutions across the region.
  • Supervise counterparty due diligence, KYC and AML checks to protect the group when onboarding banks, suppliers, and customers in new markets.
  • Provide cross-border financial oversight for operations in Kenya, Tanzania, and the wider region, delivering variance analysis, budget tracking, and forward-looking financial models to the Board.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline; a professional certification such as CPA or ACCA is strongly preferred.
  • At least five years of hands-on experience in senior financial management, treasury, or trade finance, ideally within the oil and gas or broader energy sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in IFRS reporting, statutory closings, working capital management, and trade finance mechanisms.
  • A proven track record of leading ERP system implementation or financial data migration projects, from planning through to rollout and user training.
  • Strong working knowledge of banking products, credit facilities, and FX exposure management, supported by experience building corporate banking relationships across borders.
  • Excellent command of English and Swahili, both written and spoken; proficiency in Somali is an added advantage.
  • Willingness to be based on-site in Lubumbashi, DRC, and to travel periodically to Kenya, Tanzania, and other regional locations as business demands.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • A three-year renewable contract offering long-term stability within an established energy group.
  • Monthly gross remuneration of KSh 280,000–300,000, complemented by an annual return flight provided by the company.
  • Direct exposure to Board-level decision-making and the opportunity to shape financial strategy across multiple African markets.
  • Clear scope for professional growth, including the potential to later support or relocate to corporate operations in Kenya or Tanzania.
