Role Overview
This position places you at the centre of the Bank’s data infrastructure, where you will manage the health, security, and performance of enterprise database systems that support critical banking operations. You will work within the Data Center & BCP Section, taking ownership of daily database administration tasks while also mentoring junior DBAs and collaborating with developers and infrastructure teams. Your work directly protects data availability and integrity, ensuring that business applications remain operational even under demanding conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases across development, test, and production environments, ensuring they meet internal standards.
- Manage database objects such as tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures, while reviewing schema designs for efficiency and consistency.
- Apply security patches, bug fixes, and version upgrades through formal change management procedures, keeping environments current and protected.
- Monitor database health and performance using Enterprise Manager and related tools, proactively resolving bottlenecks, failed jobs, and capacity issues.
- Administer Data Guard and RAC configurations to support failover, standby operations, and continuous high availability for critical services.
- Design, test, and maintain backup, restore, and recovery strategies that meet defined recovery time and point objectives, including disaster recovery drills aligned with BCP frameworks.
- Manage database security by controlling user accounts, roles, and privileges under least-privilege principles, and support audits and regulatory access reviews.
- Partner with development teams to optimize queries, execution plans, and data migration or replication efforts, while acting as the escalation point for complex database incidents.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- At least 2–3 years of hands-on database administration experience, with deep practical knowledge of at least one enterprise relational database and exposure to high-availability and recovery operations.
- Strong command of Oracle Database administration, including Data Guard, RAC, and Oracle Enterprise Manager, as well as Microsoft SQL Server administration, performance tuning, and security hardening.
- Working knowledge of MySQL or PostgreSQL for installation, configuration, and day-to-day management, plus familiarity with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS or Azure SQL Database.
- Advanced SQL skills, including query optimization, execution plan analysis, and indexing strategies for enterprise workloads.
- Solid understanding of backup and recovery frameworks, point-in-time recovery, replication topologies, and data migration methodologies.
- Proficiency with Oracle Linux or Oracle Solaris environments for database hosting and troubleshooting hardware, software, and interface issues.
- Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL concepts as they relate to database operations, along with database security best practices including encryption, auditing, and vulnerability management.
- Relevant certifications such as Oracle OCA/OCP, Microsoft DP-300, MySQL certification, or AWS Certified Database – Specialty are preferred.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics to developers, business users, and junior staff.
- A proactive, self-directed work style with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-availability banking environment while maintaining disciplined documentation and change management practices.
