Role Overview
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is recruiting an academic staff member to strengthen its teaching, research and innovation agenda. The appointee will deliver quality instruction, supervise student research, and contribute to programmes that deliberately weave science, technology and innovation into the curriculum so that graduates are equipped for a fast-changing world. This is a role for a scholar who pairs classroom excellence with an active research and publication profile, and who is ready to serve the University through academic leadership, quality assurance and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, laboratory or practical sessions at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the appointee's field of specialisation, using technology-enhanced and learner-centred approaches.
- Design, review and update curricula, course outlines and teaching materials so that programmes remain current and reflect emerging developments in science, technology and innovation.
- Supervise undergraduate projects, postgraduate dissertations and theses, and sit on examination and thesis defence panels.
- Conduct original research, publish findings in reputable peer-reviewed outlets, and present work at academic and professional forums.
- Attract research funding and build collaborative links with industry, government agencies, research institutes and other universities.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, and support their professional development and progression.
- Serve on departmental, faculty and University committees, and take part in examinations administration, quality assurance, accreditation and other institutional processes.
- Contribute to community outreach, extension work and knowledge transfer activities that connect the University's expertise to wider society.
Requirements & Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in a relevant discipline for appointment at lecturer level and above; candidates at tutorial or assistant lecturer level should hold at least a master's degree in the relevant field together with a strong academic record.
- Demonstrated university-level teaching experience, with the depth and scope of experience expected at the level applied for.
- Evidence of research activity, including publications, conference presentations or other scholarly output appropriate to the seniority of the post.
- Ability to integrate science, technology and innovation into teaching, research and programme design.
- Membership of, or eligibility to register with, the relevant professional body where the discipline requires it.
- Applicants holding qualifications earned outside Kenya must have those certificates certified by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
- A detailed curriculum vitae plus certified copies of all relevant academic and professional certificates, National Identity Card or Passport, testimonials, email address, telephone contacts and any other supporting documents.
- Valid clearances from the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Higher Education Loans Board, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (Certificate of Good Conduct) and a registered Credit Reference Bureau.
- Names, telephone numbers and contact addresses of three referees, who must submit their confidential reports directly to the University.
