Job Description

Role Overview

This position owns the financial record-keeping for a Kenyan distributor of specialty fertilizers and crop nutrition solutions. Day to day, the Senior Accountant keeps receivables moving, closes the books accurately, and ensures tax and inventory records agree with the general ledger. The role matters because the business sells on credit through field sales teams, so reliable reconciliations and prompt collections directly protect cash flow and keep statutory filings clean.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the accounts receivable cycle: monitor customer balances, flag overdue accounts, and work with field sales colleagues to bring in payments and reduce days sales outstanding.
  • Set and review customer credit limits, prepare aging analyses, and issue weekly collection updates to management.
  • Reconcile customer accounts every month and resolve any mismatches between statements and the ledger.
  • Post journal entries, update fixed asset registers, and keep the general ledger and ERPNext records accurate.
  • Run monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, suppliers, customers, balance sheet items, and intercompany balances.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing so that reported balances are complete and correct.
  • Prepare VAT, withholding tax, and PAYE schedules, and reconcile ETIMS/TIMS data against general ledger entries to clear discrepancies.
  • Support internal and external audits, review inventory reconciliations, investigate stock variances, take part in physical stock counts, and compile monthly management accounts with variance commentary for senior leaders.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a closely related discipline.
  • CPA(K) or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • Four to six years of progressive accounting experience, ideally gained in distribution, manufacturing, or trading.
  • Must have hands-on ERPNext experience and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong grasp of accounts receivable management, general ledger work, and Kenyan tax laws covering VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, and ETIMS.
  • High attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, and the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines.
  • Clear communication, ethical integrity, and comfort working with senior management and cross-functional teams.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Monthly salary of Kshs 120,000 – 150,000.
  • Full-time, management-level position based on-site in Nairobi.
  • The chance to work in Kenya’s agricultural inputs and crop nutrition sector, supporting a business that distributes specialty fertilizers.
