We prepare the next generation of leaders and innovators through world-class teaching methods with an emphasis on 21st century skills. We established Nova Pioneer because we believe education should prepare young people to create their future, not just work in it. Nova Pioneer is a launchpad where ambitious young Africans can begin to shape a better future for the continent and the world. We began by asking ourselves the question, "What capabilities will young people need to succeed in and shape the future that they will encounter, and what approaches to education will best develop those capabilities?” All of our founders have extensive backgrounds in education at top institutions across the globe, having studied at universities such as Harvard and Stanford and led education programs for McKinsey and Co., the African Leadership Academy, and top school networks in the US (Excel Academies). Yet at Nova Pioneer we believe that you never stop learning. So we visited and studied leading schools spanning from Singapore to Peru, and the United States to the United Kingdom. We connected with leaders of the cutting-edge education research, and leading thinkers on 21st Century Learning such as Sir Ken Robinson and teachers and atelieristas from Reggio Emilia, the leading global early education model, to name a few. We launched our first school in South Africa in 2014, with the aim of incorporating the best education models in the world, while keeping it as affordable as possible. We’ve since expanded within South Africa, and to Kenya as well - with our first Kenyan school launching in 2015. In all of our schools, we bring in and train top educators to deliver educational excellence in an environment that nurtures our students to uncover their potential and blaze trails in the world beyond our school walls. Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on teaching internship where you will work alongside experienced educators to create a safe, engaging classroom environment for young learners. Day to day, you will plan and lead age-appropriate activities, monitor student progress, and help maintain classroom routines—all while receiving regular feedback to sharpen your teaching craft. Your contributions directly support the school’s mission to deliver high-quality, character-driven education that prepares children for lifelong success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up indoor and outdoor learning spaces with materials that encourage creative play, exploration, and motor-skill development.
  • Plan daily activities aligned with the curriculum, including games, projects, and guided lessons that promote social, cognitive, and physical growth.
  • Greet children as they arrive, help them settle into the school environment, and guide them toward constructive activities.
  • Observe each child’s behaviour, learning progress, and developmental milestones, then record findings and share written summaries with lead teachers and parents.
  • Adapt your teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and needs during both individual and group instruction.
  • Enforce classroom rules and routines consistently to maintain a safe, orderly atmosphere where all students can focus.
  • Coordinate field trips, guest visits, and special projects, ensuring students gain meaningful experiences from each activity.
  • Participate in professional development sessions, staff meetings, and training workshops to continuously improve your practice.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Current enrolment in or completion of a recognised teacher training programme (e.g., Bachelor of Education, Primary Teacher Education, ECDE).
  • Strong references from your secondary school, training institution, or any school where you have previously worked or volunteered.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and helping them grow.
  • Proficiency in using common technology tools such as G-Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility and comfort with ambiguity—able to adapt when plans change or new challenges arise.
  • Proactive problem-solving orientation: you identify issues early and work through them thoroughly.
  • A commitment to the organisation’s culture of mutual vulnerability and receiving constructive feedback to accelerate your growth.

What We Offer / Why Join

This internship gives you a structured pathway into full-time teaching at a network of schools dedicated to transforming education across Africa. You will be immersed in a collaborative, feedback-rich environment that pushes you to develop leadership skills and take ownership of your professional growth. By joining, you become part of a mission to nurture the next generation of African leaders through excellent, values-driven schooling.
