SAP CI DevOps Engineer

Role Overview

This position places you inside a specialised integration team responsible for the operational health and ongoing evolution of SAP Cloud Integration (SAP CI) landscapes that link SAP S/4HANA with a wide range of business applications. Your daily work will be roughly 70% operational and 30% development-oriented: you will monitor live integration flows, resolve production incidents, and deliver well-scoped enhancements that keep the environment responsive to changing business needs. After projects hand over their approved solutions, you become the technical point of ownership, making sure every interface remains stable, secure, and fit for purpose throughout its lifecycle, while also working alongside platform teams, application owners, and business stakeholders on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of handed-over SAP CI solutions, managing them through their complete operational lifecycle and ensuring they perform reliably in production.
• Monitor integration flows and message queues, identify anomalies, and respond to standard incidents by troubleshooting across SAP CI and the connected source and target systems.
• Implement defect fixes, standard change requests, and smaller enhancement efforts, deploying updates through established release and transport procedures.
• Build and modify standard integration flows, configure protocols and connection settings, and create or update XML/JSON transformations and XPath mappings as needed.
• Maintain solution-specific certificates, credentials, and configuration artefacts, keeping integrations secure and aligned with compliance requirements.
• Contribute to the formal incident-management process by resolving standard cases independently, escalating complex issues to senior SAP CI colleagues with a clear initial diagnostic summary.
• Coordinate with source and target system teams during root-cause analysis, and communicate clear status updates to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Document troubleshooting insights, operational procedures, and integration-specific knowledge, enabling the broader team to build shared expertise and improve future responses.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience with SAP Cloud Integration or SAP Integration Suite, including development and production support.
• Proven ability to create, configure, and modify standard SAP CI integration flows in real-world environments.
• Experience supporting SAP CI integrations in production, covering monitoring, incident analysis, and defect resolution.
• Practical exposure to SAP S/4HANA integrations and the surrounding application landscape.
• Experience taking over and maintaining solutions after project handover, with an understanding of the operational responsibilities involved.
• Hands-on configuration skills with relevant protocols and technologies, including REST, SOAP, and related integration patterns.
• Strong working knowledge of XML, JSON, and XPath, including the ability to build and adjust transformations.
• Familiarity with technologies such as Java, APIs, ETL, and ESB concepts in integration contexts.
• Experience managing certificates, credentials, and solution-specific configuration items securely.
• Knowledge of release and transport management processes, with the discipline to follow them consistently.
• A structured and methodical troubleshooting approach, capable of working independently on standard incidents while knowing when to escalate.
• Confident written and spoken English for calls, stakeholder discussions, and technical documentation.
• Experience working within formal incident-management and change-management frameworks.
• Exposure to diverse SAP and non-SAP systems acting as source or target endpoints.
• Ability to contribute to process improvements and help adapt procedures to fit SAP CI-specific needs.
• SAP certification in Cloud Integration or Integration Suite is advantageous but not mandatory.
