Role Overview
This is a field-based sales position covering a defined territory, and it is where Ketepa's commercial plans either succeed or stall. You will spend your days in the trade — visiting outlets, driving execution of sales and marketing programmes, and making sure products are available, visible, correctly priced and selling through rather than sitting on shelves. Reporting to the Area Sales Manager, you are the eyes and ears of the business in your area, feeding back what customers, competitors and the market are doing so that decisions are made on evidence instead of assumption.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the monthly volume and brand-mix targets for the assigned territory, keeping availability, visibility, product quality and customer price within the agreed parameters.
- Put trade and marketing programmes into action at outlet level — securing display space, improving shelf position, and making sure promotional activity actually runs as designed.
- Maintain an accurate, up-to-date customer database for the area, capturing outlet details, stock rotation information and any changes in trading status.
- Monitor how stock rotates at customer level so that product moves in the right sequence and reaches shoppers in good condition.
- Apply the company's credit control rules when dealing with accounts, flagging exposures that breach policy and escalating accounts that need intervention.
- Collect and report market intelligence on competitor activity — pricing, promotions, new listings, distribution gains — and suggest practical improvements to marketing and trade systems to the Area Sales Manager.
- Use the resources allocated to you (promotional materials, samples, vehicle, tools and budget) productively, and keep commercial exposure and costs under control.
- Spot and report commercial risks early, and provide clear written and verbal updates on territory performance as requested by your supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in sales and marketing or another business-related field; a bachelor's degree in marketing or a business discipline is an added advantage.
- At least two years of sales experience in the FMCG sector, with exposure to territory or route-to-market selling.
- Working familiarity with core product brands and how they are positioned in the market.
- Strong selling, negotiation and customer-handling skills, with the confidence to close business in the field.
- Comfortable using computer applications — spreadsheets, databases and reporting tools — in daily work.
- Solid written and oral reporting ability, including accurate record-keeping and timely submission of field reports.
- A valid driving licence with genuine driving experience, as the role requires regular travel across the territory.
