Role Overview
Working directly within supermarkets, beauty shops, and general trade outlets across Kisumu, this field role focuses on making personal and hair care products impossible to miss. Day to day, the merchandiser arranges shelves according to planograms, sets up promotional materials, engages shoppers, and monitors stock levels, all while keeping the sales team informed of what is happening at store level. This position matters because shelf presence and in-store activation are the primary drivers of purchase decisions in the FMCG beauty sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement brand planograms by arranging, facing, and replenishing hair care and personal care products on shelves in assigned stores.
- Set up and maintain promotional displays, end caps, posters, and point-of-sale materials in high-traffic areas to capture shopper attention.
- Conduct regular audits of shelf placement, price tags, barcodes, and overall product condition, correcting issues immediately.
- Engage store customers with product demonstrations and benefit explanations to convert interest into purchases.
- Track daily stock levels and perform cycle counts to prevent out-of-stocks, identify damaged or expired items, and rotate stock on a first-in, first-out basis.
- Build working relationships with store managers and floor staff, ensuring agreed shelf allocations and display placements are respected.
- Report on store visits, sales volumes, inventory levels, competitor activity, and pricing changes through daily and weekly field reports.
- Support marketing campaigns, new product launches, and seasonal activations by coordinating in-store execution with the territory team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in field merchandising, sales, or retail within FMCG, cosmetics, hair care, or personal care.
- Proven familiarity with supermarket, beauty shop, and general trade retail environments in Kenya.
- Strong working knowledge of planograms, visual merchandising principles, and stock auditing practices.
- Persuasive communication and customer-facing skills, with the ability to influence both shoppers and store management.
- Self-driven and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced field role, with reliable time management and travel across Kisumu.
