Sacco Driver

Role Overview

A Driver at County Sacco is the person who keeps goods moving between the Sacco and its destinations, driving assigned vehicles along planned routes while protecting both the cargo and everyone else on the road. Day to day, the job combines driving with vehicle care, basic record keeping and direct contact with customers, including handling payments and issuing receipts when required. Because the Sacco's promise to its members depends on deliveries arriving safely and on time, the driver's reliability, honesty and mechanical awareness directly shape how the organisation is perceived.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the Sacco's vehicles on pre-arranged routes, using maps, GPS or given directions to reach each destination correctly.
• Practise defensive driving at all times and comply with national traffic laws and road safety standards.
• React to traffic jams, road closures or congestion by rerouting promptly so that schedules and delivery deadlines are still met.
• Carry out routine vehicle upkeep — checking and topping up oil, refuelling, and handling general motor vehicle maintenance needed for safe operation — and flag any faults that need attention.
• Keep the vehicle presentable: wash and clean the exterior, and remove debris and clutter from the interior so the cabin stays tidy.
• Load and unload goods carefully, ensuring cargo is handled correctly and safely transported.
• Maintain documentation such as journey logs, mileage records and cargo reports, and, where required, collect payments, record the amount and issue receipts.
• Follow the fleet management policy and all other Sacco policies, and take on additional duties assigned from time to time.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic secondary education.
• A certificate or diploma in a business-related course, or an equivalent qualification, is an added advantage.
• A valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
• A minimum Class DI driver's licence together with a valid PSV badge.
• Five (5) years of accident-free driving experience.
• Good mechanical knowledge, plus defensive driving training or certification.
• Comfortable working with numbers for payment collection, receipts and mileage records.
• Strong communication and customer relations skills, with the interpersonal ability to deal courteously with members, clients and colleagues.
• Honest, flexible and cooperative within a team, yet capable of working with minimum supervision.
• Able to perform under tight schedules and meet deadlines, with the emotional intelligence to handle performance expectations calmly.
• Able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
