Role Overview

You will be the first and last impression guests have of our restaurant, setting the tone for a polished and welcoming dining experience. On a typical shift, you will manage the flow of the front-of-house, coordinate seating with precision, and keep the team informed of guest needs. Your ability to balance warm hospitality with sharp logistical thinking directly shapes guest satisfaction and helps the restaurant run smoothly during peak hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome guests as they arrive, acknowledge returning customers by name when possible, and escort them to their tables with genuine courtesy.
• Manage the reservations book and walk-in seating, maintaining an accurate waitlist and providing realistic wait-time estimates to guests.
• Coordinate with waitstaff and floor managers to rotate tables evenly and reduce bottlenecks between seating, service, and table turnover.
• Answer incoming phone calls, handle reservation enquiries, and record special requests such as anniversary celebrations or mobility access needs.
• Monitor the dining room for available tables, ensure sections are balanced, and promptly communicate guest arrivals to the service team.
• Keep the reception area, host stand, and entrance consistently clean, presentable, and stocked with menus and necessary supplies.
• Anticipate guest needs, proactively address delays or concerns, and escalate issues to management when necessary to protect the guest experience.
• Support the front-of-house team during high-pressure service by assisting with table resets or fulfilling small guest requests as capacity allows.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Possess a Certificate or Diploma in Hospitality Management, or a relevant field of study that demonstrates a solid foundation in service standards.
• Minimum of three years of experience as a hostess, host, greeter, or in another guest-facing hospitality role within a restaurant or similar setting.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with diverse guests, colleagues, and management.
• Maintain a well-groomed, professional appearance and carry a calm, approachable demeanour even during the busiest moments of a shift.
• Strong customer service instincts paired with reliable organisational skills for managing reservations and table flow efficiently.
• Proven ability to work under pressure in a busy restaurant environment, prioritising multiple demands without losing attention to detail.
