In four years we've sold 1.6 million solar lights to off-grid families in South Asia and Africa— all paid for up-front, in cash— the latter 1 million customers acquired over the past year. Our products were recognized recently as 'the best solar lamp' in the Economist. Uniquely, we sell our life-changing Sun King solar home lights to off-grid families in India and Africa through a massive direct sales force of trusted, village-level sales agents that penetrate deeply into rural markets to promote our products home to home and build trust in our brand at a micro level. Today 5,000 active Saathis bring clean, safe light to 40,000 new off-grid homes each month. We're now expanding our distribution network from three states to the whole of rural India and East Africa, an under-penetrated market of half a billion emerging consumers. And we are releasing more trustworthy, aspirational products to keep our network busy. Specialties Rural marketing, Solar lighting, India, Africa View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

This is a field-based leadership role responsible for expanding and strengthening Sun King's last-mile delivery network across assigned regions. You will manage depot operations, grow the rider network, and build out LPG and product distribution services while ensuring teams meet daily performance targets. Your focus will be on people development, rider recruitment and retention, service quality, inventory accuracy, and cost efficiency—all of which directly affect order completion rates and customer trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop station-based teams by setting regional performance expectations, conducting regular reviews, and creating tailored development plans that support organizational change.
  • Drive rider recruitment and onboarding by identifying suitable candidates, completing KYC verification, and maintaining rider coverage above the minimum required to achieve over 95% daily order completion.
  • Build rider retention through initiatives that boost satisfaction, earnings, and productivity, while promoting safe riding practices and ensuring riders have the necessary PPE and safety equipment.
  • Coordinate LPG supply with approved vendors and manage procurement payments for gas, cylinders, and operational expenses according to credit terms to prevent service interruptions.
  • Maintain inventory control across stations, depots, and regional storage sites—covering LPG measurement devices, cylinders, cookstoves, and FMCDs—while keeping unaccounted losses below 2%.
  • Oversee customer service quality by coaching agents, refreshing training on communication standards, reviewing CSAT and NPS feedback, and conducting scheduled and unplanned home visits to verify satisfaction.
  • Use delivery tracking systems and route planning tools to improve operational visibility, vehicle utilisation, and delivery efficiency, while identifying unnecessary costs and keeping expenses within budget.
  • Ensure all LPG distribution activities comply with national regulations, maintain the required licenses and permits, and represent the rider network in local community and government engagements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in logistics, supply chain management, or last-mile delivery operations, with a strong understanding of field team management.
  • Strong data interpretation skills, with the ability to make evidence-based decisions and measure the impact of operational changes on delivery efficiency and agent productivity.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering process improvement initiatives and managing supplier contracts or third-party delivery providers.
  • Proficiency with logistics and delivery management software, plus the ability to prepare reports and recommendations for senior management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with diverse stakeholders across operational, procurement, and safety teams.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment and testing new delivery methods, including motorcycles and tuk-tuks.
  • Experience handling customer feedback, resolving operational issues, and coordinating with warehouse, transport, and QA teams to keep the delivery network running smoothly.
