Role Overview
This position puts you at the centre of shaping how Solidaridad East & Central Africa is seen, heard, and understood across the region. Day to day, you will turn programme evidence, technical expertise, and results into compelling stories and strategic communications for donors, partners, governments, media, and business leaders. Your work will directly support resource mobilisation, leadership positioning, and organisational reputation, ensuring that the impact of Solidaridad’s work is visible and influential to the audiences that matter most.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the regional communications strategy: Develop and execute an annual communications and marketing plan that translates organisational priorities into integrated campaigns, clear messaging, and coordinated initiatives across all channels.
- Protect and strengthen brand reputation: Identify opportunities to build Solidaridad’s visibility and credibility across East and Central Africa, while advising leadership on sensitive issues, reputational risks, and crisis communications.
- Drive storytelling and thought leadership: Convert programme evidence, results, and learning into publications, knowledge products, and compelling narratives that demonstrate impact and position Solidaridad as a credible voice.
- Oversee digital, media, and external communications: Provide strategic direction for social media, multimedia, media engagement, and other platforms to expand reach and deepen audience engagement.
- Advise senior leadership on positioning: Support the Managing Director and Regional Leadership Team with strategic messaging, and help technical experts and leaders become trusted voices in their fields.
- Support business development and donor communications: Partner with Business Development and programme teams to create pitch decks, capability statements, organisational profiles, and other materials that strengthen institutional positioning and resource mobilisation.
- Turn programme learning into influential products: Collaborate with programme, technical, and PMEL teams to package evidence and learning into accessible formats for donors, policymakers, and partners.
- Build internal alignment and team capacity: Strengthen internal communications across country teams, set quality standards, and coach communications focal points and programme staff on effective storytelling.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
- 8–10 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, development communications, or a closely related field.
- At least 3 years in a managerial, regional, or strategic communications role, with demonstrated experience leading multi-country communications strategies.
- Proven ability to develop and implement organisational or regional communications strategies that deliver measurable results.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, including the ability to make complex technical issues clear, compelling, and memorable for diverse audiences.
- Strong track record in digital communications, social media, multimedia content, media relations, and thought leadership.
- Experience strengthening organisational brand visibility, external positioning, and reputation.
- Experience supporting donor, partner, and business development communications, including proposals and marketing collateral.
- Confidence in advising senior leaders on messaging, positioning, and reputational matters.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple countries, cultures, and diverse teams; experience in international development, sustainability, agriculture, climate, or related sectors is an added advantage.
