Quantity Surveyor (Construction)

Role Overview

This position is for a hands-on Quantity Surveyor working with a construction firm that focuses on waterproofing, renovation, repair, remodeling, and general building work. Day to day, you will split your time between preparing cost documentation in the office and carrying out on-site measurements, assessments, and progress checks. Your core contribution is making sure every project is properly costed from the start and that budgets stay on track, because accurate cost control directly protects the company’s margins and reputation.

Key Responsibilities

• Build detailed Bills of Quantities, cost estimates, and tender packages from scratch, using drawings and site conditions as your reference.
• Carry out material take-offs and turn them into clear, workable project budgets that the wider team can follow.
• Visit active sites regularly to take measurements, check progress, verify completed work, and gather data for evaluations.
• Track every project’s spending against its approved budget, flagging overruns early and suggesting practical corrections.
• Review quotes from material suppliers and subcontractors, comparing proposals and recommending the best value options.
• Record and price project variations, then prepare valuation reports that keep clients and managers fully informed.
• Produce weekly and monthly cost reports that show project profitability, cash flow position, and emerging risks.
• Support project managers with resource planning, cost forecasting, and contract administration, including preparing submission documents.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Economics, Civil Engineering, or a directly related field.
• At least three years of practical, on-the-job experience in construction quantity surveying work.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate BOQs, quotations, cost plans, and tender documents from the ground up.
• Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and how site conditions affect costs in renovation and repair work.
• Experience in waterproofing, remodeling, repairs, or general construction is a distinct advantage for this role.
• Comfortable working independently on site, taking measurements, and assessing work quality without close supervision.
• Capable of reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings to support accurate cost calculations.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the broader Office suite; familiarity with specialist QS or construction software is a plus.
