Programme Manager (Conservation Education)

Role Overview

This is a leadership position within a Nairobi-based conservation organisation, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer. You will own the strategic direction of the Conservation Education Programme, working with a growing network of partner schools while translating monitoring, evaluation, and learning data into practical decisions. Day to day, you will balance field-level oversight of the Education and Field Lab team with high-stakes donor engagement, ensuring that environmental education reaches more young people while securing the funding needed to make that expansion possible.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the annual programme plan, including delivery calendars, budget management, and clear milestones for the conservation education portfolio.
• Lead the transition of successful school-based initiatives into scalable regional models, identifying new partner schools and strengthening existing teacher and patron networks.
• Oversee the creation and quality assurance of conservation education materials, ensuring content is age-appropriate, locally relevant, and aligned with current environmental challenges.
• Drive resource mobilisation by identifying funding opportunities, preparing concept notes and proposals, and managing donor relationships from cultivation through to reporting.
• Prepare timely narrative and financial reports for funders, while also synthesising field data and MEL insights into compelling communications such as newsletters, updates, and annual impact reports.
• Supervise and mentor a lean team of field staff, patrons, contract specialists, and interns, fostering accountability, continuous learning, and a culture of operational care.
• Maintain the programme’s monitoring, evaluation, and learning framework, using tools such as Google Sheets, Forms, and Looker Studio to track inputs, outputs, outcomes, and broader conservation impact.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies, risk management protocols, and institutional standards across all field activities and school partnerships.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least five years of hands-on programme or project management experience, ideally within education, wildlife conservation, or youth-focused non-profit settings.
• A proven record of taking complex programmes from initial concept through to implementation, scaling, and reporting.
• Practical experience designing and using MEL frameworks, logframes, theories of change, and data visualisation tools including Google Workspace and Looker Studio.
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce rigorous donor reports as well as accessible, engaging updates for community audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships, including schools, government bodies, donor organisations, and field teams.
• Comfort with data-informed decision-making, recognising patterns in operational metrics and adjusting execution accordingly.
• Self-driven and resilient, with the composure to manage tight timelines and shifting priorities in a dynamic non-profit environment.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role carries a gross monthly remuneration of KSh 200,000 to KSh 250,000, commensurate with experience and proven capability.
