Role Overview
Uzazi Salama is a multi-partner initiative that strengthens reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health services across Kiambu County by linking county health structures, faith-based service delivery and digital innovation. The Programme Manager carries end-to-end ownership of that agenda — setting strategic direction, aligning the community, facility, health-system and digital workstreams into one coherent programme, and making sure grant commitments translate into real results for women, children and adolescents. It is a role that mixes technical leadership with partnership diplomacy and performance management, and it exists because the programme's credibility with its funder and county counterparts depends on disciplined delivery and steady senior oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the programme strategically, technically and managerially, and remain accountable for meeting approved objectives, milestones and results.
- Drive annual and quarterly workplanning, implementation priorities and performance targets, and revisit them as circumstances evolve.
- Oversee delivery across community, facility, county health system and digital workstreams, keeping them aligned with county RMNCAH priorities.
- Supervise and guide the Programme Officer and M&E Officer, coordinating with finance and technical colleagues so that all functions pull in the same direction.
- Manage the performance and accountability of consortium and implementation partners, including CHAK teams, Girl Effect, county structures and other programme stakeholders.
- Review programme performance, expenditure and emerging risks on an ongoing basis, triggering corrective or adaptive management action early rather than late.
- Serve as the principal liaison with M-PESA Foundation and represent the programme in high-level engagements with Kiambu County leadership, the Ministry of Health and other strategic partners.
- Uphold compliance with grant requirements, CHAK policies, government standards and agreed quality-assurance mechanisms.
- Guide the preparation and quality review of programme plans, technical and donor reports, presentations and other key deliverables.
- Champion evidence use, learning and documentation of results, and lead transition and sustainability planning that aligns priority interventions with county plans, budgets and existing service-delivery systems.
- Strengthen capacity across the programme through supportive supervision and targeted technical guidance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, medicine, clinical medicine, public health, reproductive health, midwifery or another relevant health discipline.
- Master's degree in public health, health systems management, reproductive health, project management or a related field is an added advantage.
- Relevant professional registration or licensure where applicable.
- Five to seven years of progressive experience in RMNCAH, MNCH, reproductive health, family planning or comparable health programming.
- Three to five years in a programme management or senior technical leadership position.
- Demonstrable track record managing donor-funded health programmes.
- Practical familiarity with Kenya's national and county health systems.
- Experience spanning both facility-based and community-based RMNCAH programming.
- Hands-on background in quality improvement and supportive supervision.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary programme teams.
- Experience engaging government, faith-based organisations and development partners.
- High level of initiative and integrity, with the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
- Genuine commitment to CHAK's mission, values and faith-based approach to improving health outcomes.
