Woodland Star International Schools mantra is ad astra per aspera, meaning through hardships to the stars. Located in the complex dynamics of a developing country, we recognize the great challenges that the world faces today. As a school, we have an incredible opportunity to empower children to see, to think, and to become. Woodland Star is a place of stability and mindful transformation, enabling children to reach beyond the limitations constructed around them. Through avant-garde education, exploration of identity, and a strong environmental focus, we offer a holistic experience that teaches children to discover their passions, analyze society, and value connectedness. Ultimately, we want to teach children how to take actions that lead to a better world through overcoming their own unique challenges growing, through hardship, towards the stars. View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on support position within the Physical and Health Education department, working alongside experienced teachers to deliver lessons that get students moving, thinking, and working together. Day to day, you will help set up activities, lead warm-ups and games, adapt exercises for learners of all abilities, and give individual attention to students who need a little extra encouragement. Your work directly supports the school’s commitment to inclusive, inquiry-driven education and helps every child leave school with healthy habits, confidence, and a positive relationship with physical activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help lead and co-teach PE lessons, clearly explaining rules and demonstrating movements while keeping students motivated and safe.
  • Support the planning of sports programmes and termly units, suggesting activities that match different age groups and skill levels.
  • Adapt games and exercises so that students with differing needs—including neurodiverse learners—can take part fully and meaningfully.
  • Set up and check equipment before classes, ensuring playing areas are clean, safe, and organised for every session.
  • Observe and record students’ participation, effort, and progress, sharing insights with the teaching team to improve future lessons.
  • Supervise sports clubs, break-time activities, and school fixtures, promoting teamwork, fair play, and positive sportsmanship.
  • Communicate respectfully with parents, caregivers, and colleagues about student development and any concerns that arise.
  • Take part in school-wide events, community projects, and sustainability initiatives that bring the school’s values to life.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education—either completed or currently being pursued.
  • A solid understanding of a broad range of sports, fitness routines, and age-appropriate games.
  • Practical ability to assist in planning, delivering, and supervising PE lessons and sports activities.
  • Comfort and experience working with neurodiverse students, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
  • A professional, dependable, and open-minded attitude, plus a clear eagerness to learn and improve.
  • A demonstrated belief in the school’s mission and values, including a commitment to environmental sustainability.
  • International or multicultural experience is preferred but not essential.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or a recognised sports coaching qualification is an added advantage.
  • For Kenyan applicants, a valid TSC number is required.
  • A current police clearance or background check.
  • Certified copies of your academic and professional documents.
  • At least two professional references who can speak to your suitability for working with children.
