Role Overview
As a pharmacy technician you will work directly under the supervising pharmacist, carrying out the daily dispensing and patient-support functions that keep the hospital pharmacy running smoothly. Your primary focus is on accuracy and speed: checking prescriptions, preparing medications, and giving patients clear usage instructions so that every prescription leaves the counter safely and understandably. This position is essential to maintaining the hospital’s reputation for dependable, compassionate pharmaceutical care, and it requires a person who can manage a busy workflow while never losing attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and review prescriptions to confirm completeness, validity, and correct medication orders before dispensing.
- Prepare and dispense medications exactly as prescribed, including compounding simple preparations where required.
- Provide patients and caregivers with clear instructions on dosage, administration, storage, and possible side effects.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels, monitor expiration dates, and order or restock pharmaceutical supplies in a timely manner.
- Keep the dispensary environment clean, organized, and compliant with professional and safety standards.
- Document patient interactions, prescription details, and any observed drug-related concerns for the supervising pharmacist.
- Assist the pharmacist with patient counseling and follow-up on medication use for chronic or high-risk conditions.
- Respond to routine enquiries from other hospital departments regarding medication availability, dosage, or interactions.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
- Current and valid registration with the Pharmaceutical and Poisons Board.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret prescriptions accurately and identify potential errors or conflicts.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a high degree of accuracy under pressure.
- Excellent verbal communication and patient-counseling skills, with a customer-service mindset.
- Proven integrity, reliability, and a pleasant professional demeanor when dealing with patients, colleagues, and hospital staff.
- Capable of working effectively with minimal supervision and managing multiple tasks during peak hours.
- A mature, practicing Christian who aligns with the values and culture of the hospital.
