Job Description

Role Overview

This role works directly alongside a licensed pharmacist as the operational backbone of the pharmacy, making sure every prescription is filled accurately and every patient leaves with a clear understanding of their medication. Beyond the counter, the position carries real responsibility for stock integrity and regulatory compliance, serving as the link between clinical care and the medicines that make it possible. On any given day, you could be verifying an incoming shipment, catching a near-expiry batch before it becomes a problem, or walking a patient through how to safely manage their treatment plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and hand out both prescribed and over-the-counter medicines, carefully cross-checking each order against the prescription and the patient's profile before release.
  • Explain how and when to take each medicine, covering topics like missed doses, food interactions, and proper storage conditions in plain, patient-friendly language.
  • Flag potential concerns such as side effects or harmful drug interactions, and pass complex cases to the supervising pharmacist for a final clinical decision.
  • Receive deliveries against official orders, confirming product names, batch numbers, expiry dates, and quantities before entering them into the pharmacy's inventory system.
  • Monitor stock movement to avoid both shortages and wasteful overstocking, rotating products so older stock is always used first and setting reorder triggers before essential medicines run low.
  • Maintain tidy, accurate records of stock transactions, medicine consumption, and monthly usage patterns for internal reporting and regulatory audits.
  • Adhere strictly to Pharmacy and Poisons Board requirements, from record-keeping to handling controlled substances, and keep the dispensary environment clean, organised, and secure.
  • Report suspected adverse drug reactions or substandard products through the designated pharmacovigilance channel, and support internal quality checks or external inspections as requested.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from an institution recognised by the relevant health authorities.
  • Valid, current registration and license with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, with no outstanding compliance issues.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience in a hospital pharmacy, retail dispensary, or pharmaceutical supply chain environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of pharmaceutical products, including packaging, dosage forms, and storage prerequisites, alongside practical inventory management skills.
  • Comfortable with routine regulatory requirements and committed to maintaining patient confidentiality and workplace safety standards.
  • Clear communication and counselling skills that put patients at ease and encourage safe medicine use, plus enough attention to detail to spot discrepancies before they reach a patient.
