Job Description

Role Overview

This position supports the daily operation of the pharmacy by ensuring that every prescription is carefully reviewed, accurately prepared, and safely handed over to patients or caregivers. Working under the supervision of the Pharmacy In-Charge, the role is central to maintaining the quality, safety, and legal integrity of medication supply — directly contributing to positive treatment outcomes and patient well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and assess prescriptions for completeness, legality, therapeutic appropriateness, and potential drug interactions before dispensing.
  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately, applying the correct dosage, packaging, and labelling in line with professional standards.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels by monitoring stock movements, identifying shortages, and following proper storage and expiry-date procedures.
  • Keep accurate records of dispensary activity, controlled substances, and stock adjustments, and produce quality reports for internal review and regulatory bodies.
  • Adhere strictly to pharmacy best practices, institutional policies, and national regulations governing the profession at all times.
  • Engage with patients, nurses, and other healthcare staff courteously, offering clear information about medication use and responding to concerns within the scope of the role.
  • Support housekeeping and workflow organisation within the pharmacy to ensure a clean, efficient, and compliant operating environment.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognised and accredited institution.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical operations, including prescription handling and dispensary practice.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy information systems and standard office software; ability to quickly learn internal digital tools.
  • Strong customer service orientation with clear communication and a professional, approachable manner.
  • Self-driven and well-organised, able to work independently while also cooperating effectively within a pharmacy team.
  • Detail-conscious with a serious commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
  • A pleasant demeanour and emotional maturity needed to work well under pressure in a patient-facing healthcare setting.
