Job Description

Role Overview

This position centres on the safe, accurate, and compliant handling of investigational medicinal products within a clinical trial pharmacy environment. Day to day, you will manage drug accountability from receipt through dispensation, safeguard blinding and randomisation codes, and ensure every action aligns with study protocols and regulatory standards. Your work directly underpins trial integrity, patient safety, and the reliability of study outcomes, while also supporting routine pharmacy services and supervising junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full inventory lifecycle for investigational products, including accurate record-keeping and compliance with required storage conditions.
  • Protect the integrity of randomisation and treatment-blinding information, ensuring no unauthorised access or inadvertent disclosure.
  • Cross-check dispensing and reconciliation records against protocol requirements and internal standard operating procedures.
  • Draft, review, and implement pharmacy SOPs, policies, and compliance standards to support consistent, audit-ready operations.
  • Actively participate in trial monitoring visits and quality audits, providing accurate documentation and resolving any findings.
  • Prepare procurement requisitions for pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and surgical consumables, while tracking stock levels to prevent shortages, wastage, or pilferage.
  • Verify that incoming supplies match technical specifications and quality standards, and escalate non-compliance promptly.
  • Train and supervise dispensing clerks and pharmacy students in both clinical trial procedures and routine pharmacy workflows.
  • Compound and prepare medications according to SOPs, while dispensing prescribed medicines for both outpatients and ward-based patients.
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot pharmacy equipment, logging performance issues and coordinating repairs as needed; review and authorise pharmacy logs, registers, and reports, and represent the pharmacy in multidisciplinary meetings and trial training sessions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognised institution (mandatory).
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in a pharmacy or clinical trial setting (mandatory).
  • Current Pharmaceutical Technologist Certificate and Annual Practice Certificate from the Pharmacy and Poison Board (mandatory).
  • Demonstrated integrity and ability to handle confidential trial and patient data with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams.
  • Proven capability to work with multidisciplinary groups and build productive relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a track record of delivering accurate, high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Solid team management and decision-making abilities to support day-to-day pharmacy operations and trial activities.
