Job Description

Role Overview

You will serve as a pharmacy technologist at a clinical research site, ensuring that study medications are safely stored, accurately dispensed, and fully accounted for across all trial activities. Your day-to-day work directly supports participant safety and the integrity of clinical data, as you manage case report forms, perform quality checks, and collaborate closely with clinic and laboratory teams. By maintaining rigorous pharmacy logs and counseling participants on correct product use, you help keep the study on schedule and uphold regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete and maintain assigned Case Report Forms (CRFs), ensuring every entry is accurate, legible, and submitted on time.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of study CRFs and source documents, identifying discrepancies and resolving data queries promptly.
  • Dispense study products and prescribed medications to participants, verifying that each prescription matches the protocol and participant assignment.
  • Monitor pharmacy stock levels and arrange for availability of required prescription drugs, preventing interruptions to participant dosing schedules.
  • Record daily pharmacy temperature and humidity readings, flagging any out-of-range conditions that could compromise product integrity.
  • Counsel participants on adherence to study products, explaining correct usage, storage, and potential side effects to support retention and protocol compliance.
  • Coordinate the participant randomization process alongside the data and clinic teams, ensuring correct treatment allocation and documentation.
  • Keep precise and timely records of all dispensed products in pharmacy logs, accountability logs, and the study database, and serve as the laboratory’s QA/QC point person for specimen data integrity.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in pharmaceutical technology (mandatory).
  • Registration with the Pharmacy and Poison Board (mandatory).
  • Minimum of two years of hands-on experience as a registered pharmaceutical technologist.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HIV prevention and treatment services.
  • Strong commitment to integrity and high-quality performance in all duties.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with participants and colleagues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, including experience with spreadsheets and clinical databases.
