Role Overview
This restaurant team member helps keep service moving smoothly from food preparation and kitchen hygiene to accurate table service and payment. The role combines practical cleaning and food-handling tasks with attentive guest support, helping ensure meals are served as ordered, at the right temperature, and with a welcoming experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and present food to the required quality, follow ticket instructions, and store ingredients and prepared items correctly.
- Carry completed orders from the kitchen to guests promptly, checking accuracy, presentation, and serving temperature.
- Take guest orders, explain menu choices, recommend suitable items, promote new products, and process bills and payments.
- Coordinate with kitchen and service colleagues about order progress, guest requests, and ways to reduce delays during busy periods.
- Keep tables, waiter stations, service areas, kitchen spaces, equipment, and guest and staff washrooms clean and sanitary.
- Wash pots, pans, cutlery, and crockery; use cleaning detergents appropriately and follow food-safety and sanitation procedures.
- Restock condiments, manage waste, empty bins, and clean grease traps as required.
- Support assigned opening and closing tasks and follow established operating procedures throughout food production and service.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least six months of experience as a certified Java House staff member.
- A KCSE certificate with a mean grade of C plain.
- Strong guest-service skills and an interest in working in the hospitality industry.
- Ability to recommend menu items and upsell in a helpful, guest-focused manner.
- Good planning, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment when making quick decisions under pressure.
- Reliable, responsible, adaptable, proactive, articulate, and able to contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to work under pressure and for long hours when required.
- Service training is provided in-house.
