Role Overview
This role is responsible for steering the daily operations that span from fish harvesting through to processing and outbound logistics, ensuring that each stage runs with precision and minimal waste. By coordinating closely with quality control, logistics, and sales teams, you will directly influence the consistency of product quality and the efficient movement of stock from lake to customer. Your work underpins the reliability of supply and the profitability of the entire production chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full processing floor operation, including staff scheduling, throughput targets, and adherence to standard operating procedures for fish handling and packing.
- Collaborate with the quality team to maintain compliance with food safety and quality management systems, promptly addressing any deviations or non-conformities.
- Analyse processing performance data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, or quality risks, then implement corrective or preventive actions to improve output.
- Oversee lake logistics, including net maintenance (delivery, inspection, cleaning, fabrication), boat utilisation, and equipment readiness to support timely harvests.
- Work with the logistics manager to optimise resource allocation across vessels and crews, reduce turnaround times, and control operational costs.
- Lead regular cross-functional meetings with sales, production, and HR to align on forecasts, staffing levels, and any supply chain adjustments needed to meet demand.
- Build and sustain relationships with external partners such as suppliers, regulators, and customers, ensuring transparent communication and compliance with industry standards.
- Scope and drive special projects as they arise, such as process automation, facility upgrades, or new equipment trials.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in operations management, supply chain, logistics, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 7+ years of leadership in operations, logistics, or supply chain within FMCG or agriculture (experience in Kenya, Rwanda, or the Netherlands is a plus).
- Technical skills: Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, project management tools (e.g., MS Project), and supply chain management software.
- Proven ability to break down complex operational challenges into actionable solutions and drive them to resolution.
- Strong people management skills, including motivating teams, developing staff, and managing performance across multiple shifts or sites.
- Data-driven mindset with meticulous attention to detail, using metrics to guide day-to-day decisions and long-term improvements.
- Experience leading medium-to-large operational projects, applying structured project management methodologies.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organisation.
- Preferred: Experience managing multiple cross-functional teams, or a finance background within FMCG/agriculture.
